Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

What should a title be other than descriptive of the basic setting of a film; which is exactly what all three titles are. The first one is Bilbo getting unexpectedly wrapped up in the dwarves business (getting revenge on Smaug), the second is the taking care of business, and the third is Bilbo trying to wrap up his role and just go home.

All three titles are perfect.

:exactly::goodpost: Perfectly said Marc :hi5:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think the title doesn't sound as elegant as the other two.

People had similar complaint about the title The Dark Knight Rises.

In the end though most get used to it and it becomes a complete non-issue.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't like the title. That's like Having Star Wars titled:

Star Wars: A New Hope
Star Wars: Darth Vader and ****
Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi

Just doesn't fit.

Elegent? Have you read the book even? What is there that is elegant about going into a dragon's piss and **** hole?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm a bit of a homer but I don't think some get how appropriate this title is. Especially with it now being a trilogy and what's going to happen in the middle film.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Not too sure what I would title it. About what chapter do you think it will start and stop?

But it just sounds off. I'm not gonna hate it, just don't like it. Easy to see pass.

The other title's are excellent. This one just doesn't fit in (no matter what's happening in the second one).

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think film one ends with ends with them being captured in mirkwood, film two ends with the death of smaug, the third film ends with Bilbo coming back to the shire.

Agree to disagree. It was my choice when we talked about it in a torn article. It totally fits with how things are being done and the main antagonist in the second film. Maybe it's a matter of understanding the material?

Edit: I know the last line sounds dickish and it's not really meant to be. It's just that this second film is gonna be ALL about Smaug. There is something very important about him and why Gandalf urges Thorin to retake the Lonely Mountain.

:rotfl

Nope not read the book.
No matter how appropriate the title is to the events of the film, TO ME it just sounds jarring sandwiched in between 'An Expected Journey' and 'There and Back Again'

Even something like "Smaug's Lair" or "The Lonely Mountain" would be an improvement.

I think "An Unexpected Journey Rises" would have been a much better title.

Those would have made less sense. Say the title in your head and truly think if those make sense.

I think "An Unexpected Journey Rises" would have been a much better title.

Yeah, I guess they could have gone the lazy route and just added a single word to the title. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

"Smaug's Lair" is definitely a step down from "The Desolation of Smaug"...I do like "The Lonely Mountain" though, but think the title they went with fits better.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The Lonely Mountain makes a great subtitle on one of the eventual Blu-Ray movies.

One other thing all of these have ties to the book or the world in general.

The first chapter is an unexpected party so the first movie title is a play off of that, the second movie takes its title from on Bilbos map, and of course there and back again is the subtitle of The Hobbit.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The Hobbit: Into The Lonely Mountain
The Hobbit: Smaug's Liar
The Hobbit: The Lonely Mountain
The Hobbit: A Thief in the Night
The Hobbit: The Bilbo Rises
The Hobbit: Part 2
The Hobbit: There (This one would have to change the third to just "Back Again")
The Hobbit: Reckoning
The Hobbit: The Untold Story
The Hobbit: "Hey Japan This Is A Movie"
The Hobbit: "Biggest film Since Sound"
The Hobbit: Mischief, Mayhem, Hobbits

That's where it was from! I took my copy out and looked at the chapters and thought I had gotten blind. I was sure it was a chapter title. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, it sounds like a chapter title for sure. It's one of those little things that my mind has trapped that could help me on a game show. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I do not deny that the title describes that act of the book well, but it just sounds awful as a movie title. It simply doesn't flow well with the other titles, quite possibly for naming a character (Smaug). With all of those creative minds, certainly something more whimsical and "Middle Earth-ish" could've been come up with than, "The Desolation of Smaug." Honestly it sounds rather off-putting, IMO. I just think it's a bad choice.
