Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I was actually hoping he looked vastly different this time, was never a fan of how he looked in the trilogy. :(

Why would Gollum look vastly different? He looked amazing in the trilogy IMO. Jackson very much captured how he's described in the books.

I'm curious as to why they made his eyes bright blue for The Hobbit. They weren't blue in LotR were they? I thought they were just a dull grey color.

As I said I was hoping he'd look different because I didn't like the way he looks. Thought I stated that pretty simply. :dunno

Maybe it's because he was without the ring after Bilbo took it and it caused him to age more or something.

It was more a question of why would you expect him to look vastly different? They're not going to reinvent the wheel and especially so when they're going off how Tolkien described him (also how he has been drawn by Howe and Lee).

Got my 3D glasses. Pretty sure I'm going to just leave them boxed.

Oh, guess I didn't get what you were getting at. No idea why they'd make him different, just wouldn't have minded if they did.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can remember my initial mental image of Gollum from when I first read The Hobbit. Much more of a "creature," though of course I didn't know his history at that point.

Despite that, movie Gollum is the only "special effect" character that's in the same league as ESB Yoda for me personally.

Same, I thought the older editions (when Tolkien was still around) had him as a froggish type creature. :dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Hopefully it is Smaug and PJ hasn't added multiple dragons in the attack on Dale. From the glimpse we receive, it's looking like John Howe's design, as expected.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It wouldn't be the Hobbit without including the dragon. I'm sure Jackson needed SMAUG.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It is Smaug, no other dragons. Jackson has said Smaug will be in the first film for a few shots.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

That looked like Radagast walking across the bridge.....
