Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I really think some people are expecting this to be a redo of Lord of the Rings. Not realizing The Hobbit even with the appendices stuff is a MUCH lighter book. It's a children's book for crying out loud. :lol from what I understand the first 40 mins are basically ripped from the book (so if you don't like that you might not like the book). As far as the CGI I don't think some pay attention to just how much was used in Lord of the Rings, and how Azog is no different than the Troll Aragorn fought in ROTK. I guess I'll know in a few hours.

The first chapter in the book is also around 40 pages and that's how long it takes to read it...awesome

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Judgeing by reviews I guess it carries a lot if unessasary baggage. That's what was great about LOTR- the pacing. You never got bored at any point.

Hoping this is just as good, by the looks of it, it might be a let down.

Saving my faith until after I see it though.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't understand people who are having issues with the length of this movie and the pacing. If they watched the LOTR trilogy, then they should know exactly what they're getting into.
Also, the sources are vastly different in tone (Hobbit vs. LOTR books) so the movies will reflect that. Some people just need something ***** about.:slap

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm still debating on the 48fps or not.

let's see...
regular theatre, 24 fps, non-3D
regular theatre, 24 fps, 3D
IMAX, 24 fps, non 3D
IMAX, 48 fps, 3D

What the heck?!

That's an option? That's what I'd like to see. But I am apparently hosting a Christmas party tomorrow and going to another in Milwaukee the day after. My wife needs to consult the movie calendar before setting up our plans.... :lol

So. . .which is it? Should I set my expectations based on the previous movies or not? :lol

Pretty much. :lol Expectations are that it should be a good film and fit within the same universe but that the story is a simpler one than LOTR by a lot.

Great, we can get a review on the HFR then!

Josh, what format are you seeing this in tonight?

2D 24FPS tonight at midnight
IMAX 3D 48FPS on Saturday
Dec 23rd 2D

Will see it probably 1-2 more times during my x-mas break.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So is anyone going to the midnight showing tonight besides Josh?

LOL, real fans can handle the Midnight showing of a three hour movie; sadly, I am not one of them - tried midnight Fellowship and I was pretty darn tired for the last 45 min of that movie

Gotta save it for the early daytime shows!!!

Except the criticism on the length that i've read seems to suggest that this one is a lot more dragged out than any of the original films.

It'll probably be a great thing for the die hard Tolkien fans who'd love to see everything explored in-depth.

But might not be so good for the casual fans who loved the original but havn't read any of the books and just want to see another great set of films.
