Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Same here. Although I have a feeling this wouldn't be an accurate representation even if I could actually get it to work. I didn't notice any fast motion/sped up movements when I saw it. It was smoother looking, but not faster.

This does exactly that. Smoother look. Not faster. That's why I was hoping you could try it since you've seen the real thing, and tell us whether it's anything like this.

The youtube video is at half speed...

I went to that link already. Not sure what I'm supposed to do there...

It says: "You are currently in the HTML5 trial."

Are you trying to watch it in the embedded video or did you go to the actual youtube page?

Should work on the youtube page - working for me

:lol

Isn't BBC 50fps?

:lecture

You could do a talk show by candle light and it will still have a higher frame rate than traditional film.

Of course it would! I was talking about what I SEE.

You are seeing the frame rate difference, you just don't know that's what is giving it it's characteristic look. If you go to your TV right now and find a channel that's showing a Hollywood movie (which would be 24 frames per second), and then find a channel playing the news (which would be 60 frames per second), you'll SEE what we mean. The news will be super smooth as if you were watching a home movie, and the movie will be "choppy" (the actual term is "jutter") by comparison.

It's the fewer frames (choppiness) that helps create much of what we call "movie magic". Many feel it is a mistake to double the frames. :peace

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just come back from seeing it in IMAX, I loved it Martin was perfect as Bilbo, the new format in some of the scenes its like being there. The Goblin mines look superb. Need to see it again, The eagle scene looks amazing. All the parts in the book are done great. Really pleased with it, Big Tolkien fan.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread
