Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Only reason I'm seeing it that way is that I'm a believer in "directors intent". I don't like 3D either, but gonna get the full deal tomorrow, for better or for worse.

Not worried about lighting. It's all about how motion is perceived.

It wont be as smooth as a soap opera, but it will look like BBC television.

I can't get BBC television so I have no idea. I'm really confused about the comparison to a soap opera because the only thing I notice about soap operas is the brightness of the sets. The lighting isn't natural.

I just wish I could see it in 48 fps. :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Ween, move your hand in front of you face back and forth as fast as you can, see the motion blur?

Now imagine doing that but not seeing the blur. That's 48fps.

Here is a simulated version of what the HFR probably looks like

You need to play it back at 2.0x from the playback controls - you can't do that within the embedded video so watch the video in youtube. You need to 'opt in' to the html5 version of youtube to do so. You can do that from here:

:lol Yeah.......that worked. Thanks!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

You don't need to watch soap operas to know what video (instead of film) looks like. Pretty much any live TV uses it (talk shows, sports, news, etc.)

Once again, set brightness. I'd probably have no problem with sharpness.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm torn apart whether I should be seeing this in 3d or just 2d. I don't have the option for 48 fps but tbh I have heard horrible things from just about everyone that has seen it in that way. Has anybody heard how the 3d is? I'm not a huge fan of it the only movie to impress me with it has been Avatar, but if it looks good then I will see it in 3d.

eh.....I'm not going through all that.

And who the hell ****ed up my youtube page! Damn hippies! :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

This has nothing to do with brightness or sharpness though. It's about the perception of motion. The simulated youtube trailer shows it pretty well I think.

I'd be curious to know what someone who's seen it in HFR thinks of the youtube simulation.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I've not even gotten to watching that youtube clip at 2x yet. Too busy laughing at what they sound like at normal speed, someone's been at the longbottom leaf again:rotfl

This is exactly the same question I have. Whether to see this in 3D or 2D. I wonder if the 3D is really that good or even worth it or if seeing in 2D would be good enough

is it supposed to look in slow motion? or did I do it wrong? I did pot in to the html5 version of youtube but I don't know if it is playing like it should.

You need to go to the button on the bottom right of the video, the one that looks like a cog, and that will give you different options, 480p, 720p, 1080p and playback options of 0.5x, 1x, 2x

Select 2x

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

:lol

Yeah, that's how I imagine it looking

:lol

Isn't BBC 50fps?

:lecture

You could do a talk show by candle light and it will still have a higher frame rate than traditional film.

It only has the resolution options when I look there.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Same here. Although I have a feeling this wouldn't be an accurate representation even if I could actually get it to work. I didn't notice any fast motion/sped up movements when I saw it. It was smoother looking, but not faster.
