Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Ive never been a huge fan of the LOTR series, but ent to this last night because I didn't want to be the only one who hadn't seen it.

I had just come off of a 24 hour work shift, and ended up falling asleep on and off in the theatre for an hour in the middle of the movie. Missed everything from when the brown wizard led the orcs away with his sled, through everything with the elves, to when Bilbo fell down the broken bridge into Gollum's cave.

Still didn't feel like I missed out on much.

Maybe it was just me but I loved the end sequence with everyone flying on the eagles. The scenery and landscape looked fantastic and the eagles looked so life-like.

Boy, that's a healthy way to go watch a 3 hour movie. :lol

Your reviews will never be complete. :rotfl

That was very cool. The cinematography was fantastic IMO and equal to what we saw in lotr.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Thought I'd be the last person to say this, but I was very disappointed. Everything felt like a dumbed down, kid-friendly version of LotR imo. Especially Thorin. I kept trying to get pumped up and excited about his character, but then I'd think back to Aragorn and Thorin would become incredibly insignificant. Yes, I'm aware that the book is more light-hearted but I think the movie should have stayed in the same realm as LotR. Seems like the only moments that really caught my interest were when the LotR music would cue, or seeing Frodo/Galadriel/Elrond.

There was nothing wrong with the CGI, dunno why people are complaining about that...except the eagles. Very, very fake. That surprised me after Smeagle which I think was the best use of CGI I've ever seen.

Loved the warg redesign. They were great. Much better than the hyena-looking wargs from LotR. Same with Smaug. I was hoping they would go with a good ol' classic medieval dragon design and from what we see of him at the end, they did. Didn't like the goblin design. Very uninteresting.

Radagast was awesome. His scenes were some of the better in the film imo.

Ian McKellen's age is really showing. He just didn't feel like Gandalf to me.

Favorite scene was probably the game of riddles with Gollum and Bilbo. That was fun. Gollum seemed like an actual creature acting in the film. So life-like.

I never expected the movie to be as good as the LotR trilogy, but I didn't think I'd be disappointed. I still enjoyed it though and would probably rate it an 8.5/10.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

My favorite scenes were:

1. Riddles in the Dark
2. The first attack from the Wargs. (Killi is a bad ass)
3. Rivendell

My least favorite scenes were:

1. Stone Giants
2. Talking Trolls

Trolls aren't suppose to talk.

I loved that the trolls had their cockney accents. Could've done without all the snot "humor" though.

I agree. When they arrived at Rivendell and that music plays, I got chills. Some have said that Rivendell looked fake but I thought it looked fantastic. The Radagast chase scene was really fun too.

Were these trolls supposed to be a different race or something? Maybe that's just how it is in the books, but I didn't care for the way they spoke either. I would've preferred it if they spoke in a very primitive 'troll' language using lots of grunts or something and had deeper voices.

..or not talk at all

It was a great movie, I just expected it to be more. Thus, disappointment.
