Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

But the banter between the dwarfs is some of the little bit of time you get to know them! Otherwise they are complete ciphers. And I'd be sad to have lost the plate silliness. It's a pretty fun part of the book!

Wasn't it? That whole scene where they arrive one by one; that's the only thing I remembered, CLEARLY, when I read the book. I'm glad they did those chapters justice.

"I'm a Baggins of Bag End!"

The banter between dwarfs and Bilbo was awesome. Martin Freeman is the best.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So remove the expression altogether :dunno

I guess my question is: is there any such thing as Earth in this universe? Or it's all just Middle Earth?

Middle Earth is Earth. This is it's true history.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just as I'm thankful RE: TDKR :yess:

What say you about the 'what on Earth' point?

I totally understand. :)

I honestly didn't give it much thought. I just figure it's an expression used and nothing more. Sorry I've got not real opinion one way or the other. :lol

:lol Yeah it just struck me as a little curious

Nothing to be sorry about :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I have a better idea. Why don't you explain to us what happened beyond what I described.

QUOTE]

For one thing, I didn't keep an eye on my watch, but didn't they explain what happened to the Dwarf Kingdom during that 45 minutes?

I really doubt that whole Shire sequence would play well with 30 minutes chopped out of it.

But anyway, I was just teasin' you guys. CP probably knows that.

I was just teasing you back Weenie! :wink1: Besides I wouldn't want to go to the movies with CP. He's too cheap to buy popcorn. :lecture

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I haven't bought food at a theater in forever. I did, however, get two beers during The Hobbit. It was great.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I was thinking about this movie yesterday and one thing i dont get is about the mines of moria. Clearly in the hobbit, gandalf already knew moria was lost to the orcs from one of the dwarves flashback. So why is it in lord of the rings, he (and the rest of the party especially gimli) was all surprised when they found out the dwarves in moria were dead when they arrived.

Or am i mixing up the places again...

After the Quest for Erebor, Balin along with many dwarves went back to Moria to reclaim it. Obviously it only lasted a few years but no one knew that he had died until the Fellowship stumbled upon his grave.

It was lost but after the Dwarves regained Erebor and after the 5 armies battle which displaced the Orcs Balin formed a new colony in Moria trying to get back what was lost...unfortunately after a few years The Orcs/trolls came back...plus the Balrog reawakened

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

just got back, loved the movie, it was better than I had expected. From what little previews I'd seen I did not think I was going to like Bilbo, but the guy playing him is so awesome. I need to look him up because I thought he was brilliant. Not only his line delivery, but his expressions... just caught me off guard, did not think I'd enjoy this as much as I did. I will definitely see this again before its out of theatres.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Martin Freeman IS Bilbo!

:lecture

Yeah, was just looking him up, the only things hes been in that I've seen are Shaun of the Dead and HotFuzz; I've seen both quite a few times, hes just not ringing any bells.

And yikes! hes 5'6", barely need any movie magic to make him a Hobbit!
