Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I guess. The only part I might tweak is the old Bilbo/Frodo part. The rest of it played out like I'd hope. I'm not trying to be obtuse or anything but its just not something I can agree with since it wasn't an issue for me.

Totally missed your post flosi. Sorry

Agreed on all parts.

Really though, for a book I've read at least a dozen times I can't honestly complain about anything... I can't wait to see it again!!

So should I check out the high FPS version or 3D? I'm going again tomorrow.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Watching it the second time through I found myself more emotionally attached than I was the first viewing.

- I still didn't care for the Radagast/Benny Hill sleigh chase scene nor his poopie hair.
- How come the Witch-king had a different crown?
- Still didn't think the main antagonist needed to be Azog. Bolg would have fit that role just fine and been more true to the book but I'm interested to see if Bolg is used in a different role in parts 2 & 3 or if he's just been replaced.
- I didn't have a problem with the Stone Giants but they served as much purpose as the Barrow Wights in LOTR and that was cut.
- I didn't mind the recyling of parts of the old score as much the second time around because it does have an attachment to certain things, other than the final battle scene. I didn't like that he used so much of the Aragorn/Hobbits vs the Ringwraiths music. Thorin vs Azog should have it's own music.
- The movie was too short. (so if you think it was too long, **** you! :wink1: :nana: )

I hear ya. I've read it probably about that many times so I was cruious as to how many issues I might have. Like you said I can't really complain as a whole but did have a 2-3 things I could live without.

Enjoy! I'm seeing it Friday and Sunday

I didn't mind the 48fps. If you're curious check it out.

The Witch King had the same crown it looked like.

Would have preferred Bolg but he may be coming in movie 2.

The thing with the score is we're going to notice the old stuff more due to some of us listening to it a lot. The new stuff is in there though.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I am gone for a couple of days and come back to 18 freakin' pages of new posts in this thread...and I have my preferences set on 40 posts per page. Don't have time to read through all of them.

I am jealous of those who have seen the movie. My hopes are for tomorrow night. Work and Christmas shopping have been monster tasks this past two weeks.

Anyway...someone give me a quick score on a scale of 1-100 of the overall attitude of the Freaks on this movie.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The extended version should be a shorter version. What the hell else did they need to put into this thing? It's way too long.

I didn't think it was too long, especially the second time around.

You're just too used to Bay movies where he throws a bomb once in awhile to liven things up.

I'll have to look more closely next time but I though it was a more curvey crown.

That's true, but I still wish the final battle was a little more unique because my thoughts swung to Weathertop during that battle.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I saw this over the weekend. I have never read any of the books, but I loved the LOTR trilogy. They are some of my most favorite films that I can watch over and over. The Hobbit wasn't bad, but it is easily the weakest Middle Earth offering for me - mainly due to the length of it coupled with a little too much emphasis on comedy throughout. I don't have a problem with a long movie if it moves along at a good pace. The Hobbit clocks in at just under 3 hours, much like each of the LOTR films, but not much happens for the first 45 min or so, except the dwarves meeting at Bilbo's house. Yes, I know that we need to meet the characters and what not, but that could have been accomplished in about half the time considering after those 45 min, I still could not name more than two of the dwarves...(Thorin and Bomba who reminded me of Friar Tuck) there were too damn many of them. :lol Once they get on the road, the pace picks up and so does the movie.

In terms of the comedy aspect of the film, I don't have a problem with comedy in an adventure movie, but there seemed to be so many instances of silly humor that it made the film appear to be aimed towards kids more than adults. A good example is the three ogres scene that was silly and comical and never once did I feel that any of the characters were in any real danger. Some of my friends have read the book and said there was a lot of stuff in the movie that wasn't in the book - like the ogre scene. It makes sense in that PJ is taking a single, 500 page book and stretching it into a 9 hour production, which is the same length as the LOTR trilogy that was comprised of 3 books and 1500+ pages.

I did like the movie overall, but I have to acknowledge that it could have been a much better film if the editing was a little tighter.

I just don't get where people say not much happens in the first 45 minutes of the movie.

Both Jackson and Bay have no idea what the word "Streamline" means.

Transformers 3 should've been 2 hours long. This should've been 2 hours and some change.

Really no reason for them to be in the shire for 45 minutes. Did not in anyway make the film better.

It could be due to the ghost being CGI. Ill look again when I see it this weekend.

I think there is a chance he may be tied to the Necromancer and that's why the music played.

The first 45 min were spent inside Bilbo's house. Not a whole heck of a lot happened there except the 13 dwarves showing up, eating, throwing plates around, etc. Oh and let's not forget the singing. :lol I believe the goal of that scene was to introduce us to each of the dwarves and set up the details of the journey they would be undertaking. That could have been done in about 15 minutes. Once they got on the road, the movie improved greatly for me.

Oh *****! I agree with CP. :horror

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It didn't make it worse, mind you. But honestly. Fans will appreciate more, but non fans just want a good movie.

Darth, you can buy my Christmas gifts after Christmas, it's okay. Go see the movie. :D

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think it's a good score overall. Most people have enjoyed it, aside from a few. Some of us have issues, but found the movie enjoyable despite all things.

Not every scene has to be an action scene. There was a reason for Shire scene, actually several reasons.

You have the same thinking as did record producers in the 60s. A song couldn't be over 3 minutes long or no one will listen to it. The Beatles proved them wrong. You feel the same way about movies. You think all movies should be 2 hours long.

You have ADD. Take your Vyvanse and go see the movie again. ;)

It doesn't take 45 mins to read it but Tolkien does spend a whole chapter introducing the dwarves and both songs. So I think you have to give it a decent amount of time.

There was more than that in the first 45 minutes!

I say both you and CP need to go see it again. :D
