That is neat. The Balin, Ori, and Stone Trolls part will gain more impact with people who haven't read the book and only seen the movies IMO.

Or people, like me, who read the book 2-3 times and don't remember all the names of the dwarves. :lol

Yeah, that's the same stuff the LA Times ran the other day. Very cool info on the process of bringing these characters to life.

I think the movies with the best visuals were The Hobbit followed closely by Prometheus.

But neither is in particularly high favor with critics this year so I'm sure the award will go to The Avengers.

Finally after being sick with Pneumonia plus being a parent of a young child (that would never sit through a 3 hour movie) I'm finally going to see The Hobbit tomorrow night.

Cant help but feel my excitement for it diminished over the course of a month though. Hope it is good despite the negative comments I have heard.

I probably fall into the category of easily pleased when it comes to Middle Earth though.

Well, Just got back from the showing, and I have to see I was quite happy with it. I think I saw it just in time as there were only 4 other people in the theater besides my Wife and me. It might be gone next week, as it is now it is only showing twice in non-3D and twice in 3D per day.

I think the only thing I didnt like was The Goblin King, voice seemed wrong, size was ridiculous, and some of his dialogue was the worst in the movie.

Loved Radaghast, think he may have been my fave part of the movie.
I liked all the appendice additions as well. The tone also fit well with Lord of the Rings.

Some changes really stuck out, like the end battle in the tree, if memory serves, Thorin never walked from the tree to attack the Orcs. I could be wrong, since the last time I read it was almost 20 years ago.

Did they remove Beorn from the movie? Or does he appear later on? I would think since they split this into three movies, there would be ample time for each and every scene from the book.

All in all, it was fun, not as gripping as any of the LOTR films, but I'm okay with that.

8.0/10

Edit~ Just checked IMDB and it appears Beorn is in the second movie.

I think this is the last week for it to be in most theaters. I know IMAX won't be carrying it after this week and one of my local theaters doesn't have it at all anymore (they only have 6 screens) and the other one only has one showing a day, so it will be gone this week for sure. I was hoping to see it again before it left but I'm not going to get to. :(

Glad you liked it! And glad you're feeling better.
