Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

AWESOME!!!

Sounds official to me. :dunno

Couldn't get the link to work but you can never believe anything in the press but....it is now with Weta having minutes ago posting a Hobbit thread "So it begins".:yess:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I cant wait. I really enjoyed the LOTR's movies so I know this will be great. I want to see how menacing Smaug will look.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

They're gonna have to work some magic on McKellan, Lee, and Mortensen's faces to drop the last ten years. Not to mention the fifty years between Hobbit and LOTR (though I know that's more like 4 - 5 for Elder races.)

Thats the beauty of the Gandalf and Saruman characters they were immortal oldies brought to middle earth just as they left it. Viggo will need a lot of polly filler to make him look young.
Awesome news though. I just hope Chris Lee is fit enough to cameo as Saruman.
They also need to find the right Bilbo I just hope he's British. Another actor I hope to god is still attached is Ron Perlman. Top character actor and perfect for one of the dwarves

May be a bit rusty since I haven't read the book in 3 years or so, but I don't believe Aragorn was even mentioned in "Hobbit." And he'd be only around 20 years old or so; he didn't even become aware of his heritage until about then. Only way I can envision Viggo being in this movie is if they do a flash-forward thingee in Part II.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Viggo won't be in it. Aragorn has nothing to do with The Hobbit nor the Council story line.

The only way is if in the second part of the movie they have some kind of tie-in. Which they might to tie everything together, but I'm not holding my breath.

Would like to see it though. :D

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The early talk was Viggo WOULD be in it as the second film literally was supposed to segue into the Fellowship...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm almost sure they will include viggo in one way or another.

I heard a rumor floating around he would play bilbo's brother tildo.:yess:

Thats my understanding as well. He wasn't in the direct story but I'm ok with something towards the end as it shifts into blending with FOTR mixing him in.

I've heard two rumors. The first that the second film would bridge the gap between The Hobbit and LOTR and be loosely based on Tolkien's notes. The second rumor was that both films would encompass just The Hobbit. So which is true? :dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I love the idea of Tim Roth as the King of the Mirkwood elves. I really hope that Martin Freeman gets the scheduling sorted out to play Bilbo though. I am really excited about this news, and I can't wait to see the finalized cast.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

How do you all feel about the talking animals in the Hobbit? Do they belong in the movie?

Even more so, what about Beorn's animals? Do we really want to see animals setting the table for dinner? It's a bit to "disney" in my opinion.

Who knows where these films are heading creatively? I think the big question is what's the cut off point for the end of the first one. It'll be intresting to see how that develops. I'd also imagine any bridging point between these two and the trilogy will happen as a footnote at the end of the the 2nd film. Maybe just a blink and miss Aragorn appearance as it explains that he then goes on to watch over Hobbiton. Kinda like old Ben looking over Luke...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One option would be to have the first movie end with the killing of Smaug and have the second movie end with the Battle of Five Armies.

And have the background stuff intercut throughout.
