Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't mind them ending it on a cliffhanger since the films will only be a year apart. Gives us something to look forward to. Plus it might help more book sales (go literacy! :yess:) with impatient people filling the gap by reading it.

Yeah, folks NEED to read the story. Having them together will work great. Reading the books and having the films has increased things for me 100 fold.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I've heard two rumors. The first that the second film would bridge the gap between The Hobbit and LOTR and be loosely based on Tolkien's notes. The second rumor was that both films would encompass just The Hobbit. So which is true? :dunno

From memory originally the second film was going to be a bridge to the trilogy. Then GDT came on the scene and realised there was more to The Hobbit than he first thought which changed it to The Hobbit encompassing both films. Who knows if that is still the case now that PJ has the reins but that will just be part of all the excitement thats going to happen.........finally.:yess:

How do you all feel about the talking animals in the Hobbit? Do they belong in the movie?

Even more so, what about Beorn's animals? Do we really want to see animals setting the table for dinner? It's a bit to "disney" in my opinion.

Yeah thats a tough one but maybe they could use more of a silent connection-recognition or something similar as in the TTT with Aragorn and Brego.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I read the Hobbit for the first time in the summer of 2007. Don't know why, just did. Now i know it was fate.

Bring on 2012!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One of the things I loved about LotR (the book) is how it rewards you for reading The Hobbit first.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

about the whole sag/film industry dispute with Jackson: isnt he the one that helped build it up from a small market there to this pretty huge deal? Weta is a pretty substantial company now.....to me, it seems like New Zealand officials are thumbing their nose at a person that put em where they are....!

A mixture of the two, i think. The Hobbit (as in the book) will happen over 2 movies with extra 'White Council' stuff going on at the same time, so as to explain what Gandalf's doing more easily. That's what i think anyway. :D

Also, Derek Jacobi HAS to be in these films in some way!!

From what I hear, the no-name actors in NZ are complaining and the more-famous actors are telling them to shut up and do the movie because they'll end up hurting what little movie industry NZ has.

At least that's how my NZ buddy described it to me. :p

And aren't the complainers from Australia?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The natural divide is when the Dwarfs have been captured by the elves and taken to their cave and Bilbo is left on the outside, invisible, trying to figure out a way in.

That would be a cliff hanger, but not an exciting enough ending. I think PJ will try to put a climax at the end of each film.

I still predict the death of Smaug at the end of the first and the battle of 5 armies at the end of the second.

ALthough, I think I would miss Smaug in the second movie... so I may be wrong. :)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm pretty sure between two movies a cliff hangar would be the right thing.. seeing as an ending is.. well... THE END. :dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

All I know is that it's gonna be awesome! :exactly:
