Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, nothing like watching them all in one sitting. I will be doing that again soon. One of my favorite memories was going to a local theater that was one of a few across the country that did a Trilogy Tuesday showing. We saw the FOTR and TTT EE then at midnight rolled into the ROTK. Between each show we had breaks of course, free pizza, and $1 items across the board.

I wish theaters would do this more.

Those were the days. :lecture

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Makes me want to read the hobbit book again.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Frodo will be in as a narrator reading the Redbook of Westmarch (aka The Hobbit) to some kids. He will not be contemporary with the events in the story.

I'm envisioning a statue, maquette or PF of Frodo seated on a rock with the red book in hands about to read. I would definitely buy something like that.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm on 'Fire and Water', so nearly there. Read the Silmarillion before it and will be moving onto LOTR afterwards.

Nice! I've only read the Sil front to back once or twice. Its just not as engaging to me as The Hobbit and LOTR. Yup, then I'll start reading LOTR from the 50th Anniversary Edition I have.

Would kind of go with the Bilbo statue from the SSW line giving his speech during the Birthday party scene.

Purposely not reading it again before I see the films. I made that mistake with LOTR and frankly, it made it harder to enjoy the movies on their own merits.

On the other hand, in the case of The Hobbit, I want it to be different from the book, so maybe it doesn't matter as much.

Don't get me started on SSC Bilbo products, I can't wait! :hi5:

As long as I get a 1/6 posable Thorin I'll be happy. :rock

Do tell Mike. I do not know this story.

Reading the books along the same time of of the movies only enhanced my love for each. Of course a couple things bothered me but overall not much.

Some of it will change. I'm sure there will be little singing as there is in The Hobbit and we'll get some of the White Council stuff which isn't in there. However, I expect it overall to match whats there.

Guess you're not as much of a book-thumper as me. :lol

Yep. And those will be good changes. Also, no table setting or talking animals... unless it's the Dragon. He can talk. :)

However, I expect them to make some changes that I did not expect (and might not love) and there will be an initial shock. That shock would be amplified by a recent reading of the book.

Yeah, I'm a bit more open to changes I suppose. Some of them had to be made for the sake of the movies and how the audiences are different.

Well, since no animals talked in LOTR I think the plan was to keep it the same in this. Though, I would like to see the Trolls talk that would be awesome to see on screen. The other animals talking I can live without.

Yeah, I understand that (and believe me, I'm much more forgiving than some of the book thumpers - I used to debate endlessly on Valaquenta.com in defense of the movies as a lover of both mediums) but, some of the changes still bother me to this day.

I left the theater feeling physically sick when I saw The Two Towers. The rape of Faramir can never be forgiven.
