Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Josh are you feeling a little grumpy on V day? I guess one truly is the loneliest number. :monkey2

Hallmark holidays don't bother me. :lol I've just over the years gotten tired of it when you get that attitude. That you're better than others and thats how it comes across. I also don't care for it when I and other folks are just saying we don't want him to die and don't want him to die as we would love to see him reprise a role. Nobody said they value you a role over his life. Again, it was just stated that before his awesome life comes to an end we would love to see him do this role again.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Didn't say "hallmark holidays" bug you. I said being lonely bugs you.

I also didn't say any of you wanted him to die. You all said you hoped he lived long enough to finish the movies which I found a wee bit tactless. Sorry to be so sanctimonious. I didn't think it was a big deal either way. BUt you seem to think so as you have taken things to a personal level. In which case: :pfft: to you.

You said V day which is a Hallmark Holiday. No being single doesn't bother me either. I don't think much about it either way. :lol

As far as the rest. Whatever. I value Mr. Lee's life and hope he lives many more years to come in which before he is called home he gets a chance to reprise a role I loved seeing him play. If not thats ok and I tip my cap to his long life.

Sorry for being tactless. I apologize if I offended anyone. :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I did have to look that one up though.

git - a foolish or contemptible person. (British slang) :lol

I don't believe I am foolish, but perhaps a bit contemptible at times.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

When I am not being sanctimonious I find that I am can be a right rotter and a twit.

rotter: Slang chiefly Brit a worthless, unpleasant, or despicable person

I had no idea my brain was full of so much brit slang. :horror

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

You clearly see the passion Sir Christopher Lee has for his profession, the day he is no longer able to do it, will not just be a sad day for us, but for Sir Lee also. However Jackson needs to film Saurman's scenes in England, and make every provision Sir Christopher Lee requires

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Okay......
Didn't mean to get folks into a spitting contest.
Pix - due to my obvious inexpert phrasing, my point may have been misunderstood.

As this is getting nobody nowhere, let's just end this?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, let's not start to get silly here! For what it's worth, i've thought what Pix has been saying too - it's just as legitimate to worry about ANY cast member being hit by a bus.... why waste time worrying? His scenes will mostly be sitting scenes anyway.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So what was being talked about here.... oh yeah!

Man, I hope Christopher Lee gets to play Saruman again and doesn't die before he has that chance. :)

:exactly:

:panic::panic::panic:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Oh please do me favour. When you see somebody like Sir Christopher Lee look that frail, you clearly have more concern for his well being than worrying if Martin Freeman looks both ways before he crosses the road.

Why would you say that? There is no action scenes for Saruman written in LOTR, but they managed to fabricate a wizards duel in Orthanc.

On the other hand, in the appendices, Saruman, with the White Council, drives Sauron out of Mirkwood. I anticipate this being done in a high action cinematic sort of way. I predict they will use that as part of the climax in The Hobbit.

I think it's a totally legitimate concern.

What i'm trying to do is point out how pointless it is to worry. If HE thinks he's ok to do it, and PJ thinks it's ok for him to do it, what's the problem? PJ's seen the script (He wrote it you know) so i'm sure he has a better idea than you or i do about how Christopher Lee can perform in the movie.

It doesn't say Saruman was there. It says Galadriel threw down the towers of Dol Gulder, but Saruman doesn't have to be there too.
In the LOTR books, he wasn't just sitting. He still imprisoned Gandalf and had quite a performance in the 'Voice of Saruman' chapter, as well as walking all the way to The Shire to become top bastard overlord.
And yes, you're right. They fabricated a wizard duel for the movie. They don't need to fabricate one for The Hobbit! Saruman was - or was pretending to be - good at that time. He was head of the council, which puts in my mind him sitting at the head of a big table giving good or bad advice to everyone else.
That's just how i see it though. Shall we wait and see how PJ et al see it?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

WTF...How did this thread turn into such a _____ fest? Chris Lee is looking good for a man of 108. Lets not get our panties in a bunch. He'll be in it albeit i'd imagine in a cameo capacity. Like someone said, he'll more than likely film his scenes sitting down heading the council, with perhaps a knowing nod to LOTR and his future machinations.
For me, Lee reprising Saruman is as important to the film as McKellen as Gandalf
