Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Not interesting until the end? No.
Predators is a very under-rated movie...

The whole movie was filled with mystery. Cages, River Ghost, hounds, and the most epic scene ever: When they see all the planets and realize they're not on Earth.. "We're gonna need a new plan..." amg orgasmic..

Gosh, I've gotta start a A/P movie marathon tomorrow.

lol hahahaha
Because of the Neca Pred Ive been watching the movies one a day,
I saw predator 3 days ago, and I saw the first AVP 2 days ago,

I was watching Predators a couple of hours ago, and the movie is not bad, it just has a lot of dead moments, It feels a little boring at times, like, things are happening to slow, I dont know if i make any sense,
:monkey3
I love the end, I love when you see the preds, I even like Laurence Fishburne appearance in it, I know alot of people thought he being in the movie with the predator helmet was funny and ridiculous, but, is actually one of the things I like about the movie, because he gave a lot of info about the preds, I like the hounds, I just wish it had a little more action, or showed the preds hunting them more,
I honestly like the movie, I just feel a little bored by it at some times,

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Must...resist...temptation..

Okay, AvP did NOT suck. And neither did the Predators in it. Or the Aliens.... AvP:R was a big pile of crap, though.

@Sabres Where are all of those space jockey pics from?

AVP was a terrible film, first of, it was freakin PG13, paul anderson needs to be shot just for that

the predators in the film had NO skills whatsoever and without their shoulder canon they were useless

- chopper got a total of 3 seconds of screen time and 90% of that is used to show how AWESOME the grid alien is who can just extend his 500 yard long tail, kill a predator, lift em up and then jawpunch through the bio

- then we see scar, who's all "badass" and goes hand to hand with ONE alien, gets all his equipment torn off of melted, and then gets jawpunched by an injured alien ... he went up against ONE! alien and got his ass handed to him ... that goes under the column "this predator sucks"

- then we have the "hero" of the story, scar! who gets facehugged, does a few stunts, makes friends with some random mountain climber chick, gives her an acid proof shield with a home made spear that he sews together for her (how sweet). he should've freakin either killed her or just left her behind ... instead of them going on this little field trip to beat the alien queen who was freed by 10000 of her babies - which was the other thing that just made me shake my head in disappointment, i was under the impression that it's ONE xeno per human (since they need the human bodies as host), but for some reason we have a team of maybe 20 or let's say even 30 people, but we see A LOT! of freaking xenos running around all over the place ... that also goes under the "this movie sucks" column

i could go on about how AVP doesn't even belong in the B horror movie category but i think i've made my point

i can forgive AVP:R a little more since they had a much smaller budget and had to reuse all sorts of crap from AVP, it would've been much better as a stand alone film than as a continuation, but WOLF was a huge improvement over the 3 losers in AVP and mopped the floor with the aliens and went hand to hand with the "predalien" whatever the hell hybrid thing that was (not a big fan of "chet" but still better than hearing lines such as "you're one ugly son of a bi ..." because it was PG13 to draw in the teen crowd!)

AVP:R had really bad human characters, but i liked that the film was more violent, it wasn't child friendly, i also liked the predator in it cause he didn't care if his weapons worked or not, he was gonna kill some xenos no matter what, i also loved how WOLF didn't come to earth to make friends, he came to clean up, and it didn't matter what you were, if you got in his way you were done - so overall the film had a more authentic feel to it compared to AVP which was a total sell out

The Predators in that movie 'sucked' because they were supposed to. This was the coming of age ritual which meant that they were rookies, or teens, however you want to see it. The challenge was getting in, obtain their cannons, and kill everything. Of course the humans got the cannons first and screwed everything up. Being more af an Alien fan I liked how my boys tore crap up and showed who was boss. The Aliens don't need weapons...they ARE the weapon, and they proved it. I still get chills when Grid and Chopper are face to face. As for the rating, that was not Anderson's fault, just as Alien3's problems were not Finchers. FOX has a huge problem of getting too heavily involved with their movies. From repeated viewings I actually like AvP more than AvP:R...and I hate saying that. Requiem was just a muddled mess from start to finish. The only good point was Wolf.

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

AVP:
Aliens looked cool but they didnt kill one human on screen! WTF! I know they needed hosts but come on! not even one death scene¿?

Predators were huge but they were weak and dumb...

AVP-R:
Aliens looked like ____!

Wolf was great and its even better in the "directors cut" because he realizes of the threat once he is already on earth. Too bad he dies fighting with the worst Alien/Predator design i have ever seen (yes, newborn was even better than predalien).

I wont make coments on human characters because they are not worth to :lol

Predators was soooo much better than AVP movies.

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Okay, I'm not going to read the previous posts because my head will probably explode with anger like it has in the past with these "AvP: Good, or Bad?" discussions.

I read the first part of yours, herzograven, about them having no skill.

THEY SHOWED 100X MORE SKILL THAN WOLF.

The movie wasn't terrible. It was really, a great movie. Some things, maybe several, were annoying and major fans didn't want to see. But overall, it was a really well-made movie.

I loved the actors, especially Raul Bova (<--spelling). The story was beyond brilliant, so freaken unique and interesting. The movie is just very comfortable and clever.

Like when the eggs pop up in the Sacrificial chamber.. Brilliant.

"Vwhat did you say this room was called?" "...Sacrificial chamber..."

WOOSH!

Was anybody expecting the Predalien at the end? No, don't say you were. BRILLIANT. We see it pop out, hear that wonderful hybridy screech, then the movie ends! Perfect.

Action/fighting scenes don't make a horrible movie amazing. AvP had the small details, the incredibly unique story, those awesome twists and turns.. By small details I mean things like the Queen head at the beg...oh, wait it's a Satellite.

Now, the action scenes played a HUGE part in this movie. They were literally, just magnificent. They were so well-done. If you hated Celtic to death, if you hated Grid to death, if you hated the Alien and Predator franchises to death, you were still amazed when Celtic picks up Grid by his leg and starts swinging him in circle bashing his head through the stone walls.. Then the toss and roar, orgasmic.. Scar doing that flip/jump thing and stabbing the Queen with the combi-stick? Scar leaping from ledge to ledge (my favorite scene, btw) while being shot at, and while cloaking? Amazing.
When I watched the movie in the theater, at age 8 or whatever.. I was definitely more of a Predator fan than Alien. But when Grid killed my favorite AvP Pred design, Chopper, I was amazed. Sure, Grid didn't really use any effort, but the way the scene was set up was just pure gold.

I mean, come on.. What did Wolf do that was beyond brilliant? Strip naked at the end? Poor blue ____ on dead bodies? Hold up two squirmy wormies by their necks only to get wacked into a wall because he's a complete ____ing moron? SKIN A GUY AND HANG'M IN A TREE WHEN HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE RIDDING COLORADO OF ALIEN EVIDENCE!!!!!?!?!?!?!??!?! :gah:

Phew, head almost exploded there...

And on top of that, you can't even see anything in AvP:R

Please don't respond to this post saying how AvP was horrible, etc.....I might have to shoot myself.

You should read my post then. Your head won't explode...I promise.

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Yeah, okay, yours is good. :lol

I love the Alien and Predator equally, and you're right. AvP:R ruined a lot of things, but mostly, the Xenomorphs. It's obvious that the Strause Bros didn't care for the Aliens. AvP on the other hand did a great job with them. It didn't single them out like in AvP:R. AvP just made more sense..

As for the "They're Unblooded, Wolf's a Cleaner, what do you expect?" arguement. YES, they were Unblooded, and had far less experience then Wolf.
BUT they came across as far more intelligent, and skilled than Wolf did in AvP:R.
They seemed stronger, faster, smarter(<--well, Scar did atleast), etc.

Wolf's design is absolutely amazing, no doubt about that. But the Strause Brothers just don't know how to make a movie. When I see action scenes in AvP:R, I think "Dude in costume", in AvP, I think "Alien and Predator". Not because of the design, but because of how the scenes were handled.

More effort was put into AvP, into the story and the action scenes, into the whole movie.
After seeing Predator and Predator 2, I never would have expected to see the kind of action we got in AvP.
I was shocked when I was watching previews for other movies at the theater, then the AvP trailer comes on. It just looked good, and it came out good.

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

I have come to appreciate AVP over the years. For all the things wrong with the film there is alot of things that are done well.

In regards to AVP:R, I am blinded by Wolf's awesomeness!:D

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Agreed on all counts. The thing that has irked me with repeated viewings are all the little 'homages' that the Strauss Brothers did. All the little scenes and sound bites that were used from previous movies. That's just lazy film making. The Alien designs were so awesome in AvP and just putrid in Requiem. I don't really mind the crested head domes but what's up with their necks? They're freakin' huge!! They also didn't fight well at all. I loved how they 'branded' Grid so we knew that he was the same alien throughout the movie. The Requiem aliens harkened back to the warriors from the Aliens movie....just pure cannon fodder. Oh well.

In a nutshell Requiem is a movie with lazy directors (yeah, it took two to make that crappy movie) with a Dawson's Creek atmosphere in a pitch black environment. Everyone loves how bloody this thing is...but you can't see anything!! :pfft:

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I feel like that too sometimes when I'm watching it. I do think it is because you know that a ____ ton of awesomeness is coming up, and you're just excited to see it, though. Idunno.

Here's my lists...

Most well-made: My favorite:

1. Aliens 1. Alien 3
2. Predator 2. Predator 2
3. Alien 3. Aliens
4. Alien 3 4. Predator
5. Predator 2 5. Alien
6. Predators 6. Predators
7. AvP 7. AvP
8. Alien Resurrection 8. Alien Resurrection
9. AvP:R 9. AvP:R

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

Basically how i see it is AVP was more of an alien fan movie and AVP :R was more of a predator fan movie. Each did more ass kicking in their respective movie.

That said i really hated AVP when i first saw it due to the fact that the predators died so quickly and didn't do much.

What do i think now after seeing both and time passing? They both have their merits and their faults. Personally i dont agree that AVP had an amazing plot with twists and turns, as someone who watches a lot of movies i wasn't really shocked by anything that happened. It had a better story then AVP:R but thats because AVP:R had the story of some show on the WB. AVP had enough story to keep the movie going and thats about it. I feel the action in AVP:R was way better , the fights in AVP were eh the queen fight was the best. THe fight between Celtic and Grid was borderline ridiculous, the alien slamming through the pillars and single handedly killing two preds no good IMO. I just didnt get the same badass feeling from any of the preds in AVP and i know they are suppose to be coming of age but you would think they can do something without their cannons. AVP:R just felt more badass like a predator should.

At the end of the day i actually like both movies more then i originally did upon first viewing. I think they both fall into the same category for me though kinda like cheesy B movies. Im a predator fan so i will watch most anything with them but I much preferred Predators and predator 1 & 2

Yeah, I agree with all of this..

It's nice to have the famous Predator music in a sequel, but it just wasn't done right imo. It didn't fit in this movie, or atleast the scenes they put it in.
I actually, to be honest, liked the Resurrection music when they're on the street at that one scene.. I can't remember which scene it was. I think it's when Ricky's all like "Somethin came after us", but idunno.

Ya know, we haven't gotten a true ALIEN since, ALIEN... They've all either turned into bugs, wild animals, or squishy sea-creatures.
BUT, I love every Alien design except AvP:R. It just didn't work at all. They looked like ugly, poorly made, lop sided/deformed goofballs.
Although the AvP Aliens were severely lacking in the Biomechanical/sophisticated Alien department, they looked great. I would love to have a SS 1:4 AvP Drone (If it has a smooth head I call it a Drone. Ridged, Warrior..) with an exclusive switch-out grided head + arms/shoulders...

See, here's the thing. AvP wasn't an Alien biased movie.
AvP:R was Predator biased.

Did we see an Alien helping Alexa out at the end? No. It was what it was supposed to be. An Alien versus Predator, movie.

I'm shocked that you think the Predators "didn't do much", or that the action scenes in AvP:R were "way better".
Seriosuly, I just don't get how anyone could think that...

AvP didn't just seem good because AvP:R was ____. It had a very interesting and unique story.. I don't get you people.. :dunno
Well, after reading the rest of your post it seems that you are definitely more of a Predator fan.. That makes sense.

As for the Celtic vs Grid fight... No matter who you wanted to win, the fight was great. Now normally, an Alien's head would probably not have busted from the wall.. Idunno, maybe.
In Alien we have him survive the engines, the harpoon thing, etc. In Aliens we see the APC drive over the Alien's head, we also see Vasquez shoot at the Alien's head with the futuristic pistol, only to have the bullets ricochete (<--spelling) off. She does end up breaking through the head with the pistol though, but that was only when she had the gun a few inches from the head, and she had to fire several bullets..

Uhmm..let's see. Well, the bad thing about that fight in AvP was that the head doesn't break, but later on Alexa blows an Alien head open with something the equivalent to a nail gun..

But yeah..

Well, after reading the rest of your post it seems that you are definitely more of a Predator fan.. That makes sense.

But yeah..

Well do you watch a lot of other scifi or movies in general? Maybe its just the age you saw it at it really stuck with you (nostalgia)? Because its a pretty standard plot set up. We found a macguffin we send the cannon fodder human characters to said macguffin. Said cannon fodder screws it up for one faction while the other takes advantage of it. The unlikely ally helps said screwed faction to win in the end. The idea of predators forming all of human society is kinda neat but not overly original as there are tons of conspiracy theories of the same idea.

What about the story seems so unique?

I dont think its the worst movie in the world or anything and your more then welcome to enjoy the movie i just dont see the profound greatness of it.

Re: The all new PREDATOR Appreciation Thread

I'm not sure if age really has anything to do with it. I'm a 34 year old die-hard sci-fi geek and as a whole I think AvP was a much better constructed movie. We're not going to change anyone's mind though but I do like the debate. I have to disagree about the Requiem fights being better because...you couldn't SEE anything!!!! How would we know? Also, just to keep it in perspective. The 'rookies' in Avp had no gun and Wolf had TWO guns. No wonder he was more badass :thud:
