We can say the same about almost every movie..

Predator: Monster hunting big tough guys with guns through the jungle.

Alien: Monster hunting a crew in dark places...

I think the whole idea was just really unique. I don't really like the whole "Predators helping us build pyramids" thing though.
The setting especially, it's not something you see very often.
There are parts of the backstory I like, but I feel the Predators played way too big a role, err, noticeable role in our history.

I watch a ton of movies.. When AvP first came out, I liked it, disliked it, liked it, disliked it.. That went on for years then I kinda forgot about the A/P franchise for a few years.. Around December I think, when I was 15, I watched AvP again.
See, I had mostly just been watching Predator 1,2, and Alien 1,s,3,R since late Summer of 09 (which is win I rebooted my whole Alien/Predator craze).
But anyway, when I watched AvP again, I just said "Wow, this is just like Aliens. So enjoyable.".

Idunno, maybe it's just me. I just find it to be very different, very unique, comfortable, enjoyable, like Aliens and Predators...
Well, a lot of people hate Predators...

That is by far my favorite AvP story EVER!
And I agree, Redemption is the best AvP movie/video out there..

Basically how i see it is AVP was more of an alien fan movie and AVP :R was more of a predator fan movie. Each did more ass kicking in their respective movie.

That said i really hated AVP when i first saw it due to the fact that the predators died so quickly and didn't do much.

What do i think now after seeing both and time passing? They both have their merits and their faults. Personally i dont agree that AVP had an amazing plot with twists and turns, as someone who watches a lot of movies i wasn't really shocked by anything that happened. It had a better story then AVP:R but thats because AVP:R had the story of some show on the WB. AVP had enough story to keep the movie going and thats about it. I feel the action in AVP:R was way better , the fights in AVP were eh the queen fight was the best. THe fight between Celtic and Grid was borderline ridiculous, the alien slamming through the pillars and single handedly killing two preds no good IMO. I just didnt get the same badass feeling from any of the preds in AVP and i know they are suppose to be coming of age but you would think they can do something without their cannons. AVP:R just felt more badass like a predator should.

At the end of the day i actually like both movies more then i originally did upon first viewing. I think they both fall into the same category for me though kinda like cheesy B movies. Im a predator fan so i will watch most anything with them but I much preferred Predators and predator 1 & 2

I saw AVP a couple of days ago and...

the movie is not bad, it could have been great, if it wasn't PG13, it would have been really good,
Looking at the movie I realize the Off camera kills got really annoying, fast, people kept dying off camera while you onle heard their screams, that is really annoying...

One thing I did not like was the setting, but that is a personal issue, not the movie's fault, I just didn't like that they were enclosed in this pyramid, felt claustrophobic but in the bad way, i mean, the movie felt constricted at times, but, not a big issue,
the acting and the characters were Way better than AVPR, I liked almost everyone in AVP
the Aliens were cool and the predators were okay, People complain that Chopper didnt get any screen time but Look At Tracker!!! he got like a 2 minutes of screen time,

More human blood and gore wouldn't have made AVP a better movie. All you need to see in a AVP movie is green blood.

Why the AVP movies weren't set in space with marines is beyond me.

Predator scenes that I liked in AVP are:

-Predator gear up scene;
-Predator pod drop;
-Predator ship flies over the whaling station.

Notice that we don't even see a full shot of a Predator in these shots. I feel they added to the mystery behind the character.

I am watching Predator 2 right now again, (for the 200 time lol), and Yeah, definitely Pred 2 For me is the best movie of all of them, I love the first one but, the second one kicks so much ass,
notice that the movie starts with a shootout, and it never stops from there, the pred in this one, some people say he is weaker than the first one but, I dont really care, this movie is really good

I could never understand why people didn't like it that much when it came out, or critics, I don't know, people said it sucked, but they are crazy

About Dany Glover, I Dont give a poop what people say about him, he was really good in this, I really dont dislike him at all, a lot of people say this movie sucked because there is no way Dany could have beaten the pred, but, like I said, he was good in the movie,

Anyway, I love Danny Glover, and Mike Harrigan.. Predator 2 will always remain my favorite Predator movie.. It might not be an oscar winner, but it has the feeling..the atmosphere.. "He's in town with a few days to kill.." "There's no stopping what can't be stopped... No killing what can't be killed....". Just perfect, everything about it..

I always love hearing that Alien-esque "Screeeeech" at the beginning..

plus it has like 4 plots all going at once, Dany Glover as the cop trying to find the killer, Keyes trying to capture the pred, the pred killing everyone, and the gangs fighting each other, there is never a dull or boring moment,
I wish Predators was like that, entertaining from beginning to end, What I mean is, I hope Rodriguez Directs the next sequel and makes it with more action,

If you read the comic series, Predator: Cold War, then you'd know that they sometimes go to cold weather environments. They're in Siberia and fight Russions in that comic. They may prefer heat, but they don't only fight in it.

God forbid they try something different. From now on EVERY Predator movie needs to be in the GOD DAMN JUNGLE!!!. DAT'S WHERE DA FIRST ONE WUZ, DAT'S WHERE DAY ALL NEED TA BE!!!

Seriously, they travel from planet to planet in giant furtuistic space ships hunting hundreds of deadly Alien creatures. I don't think cold weather is going to hurt them.

It's obvious that they're cold blooded because of the whole "only in the hottest days this would happen" shizzle, but so what? So they prefer hunting in a warmer environment? That means they can't hunt in cold weather? They better be careful, you know how delicate those cute little guys are.

Oh, and I seem to remember the pyramid being in a temperate climate.

They film crew did a great job creating the hunting camp set. I would have liked to see what else they could have made given a bigger budget. I'm guessing RR had alot of crazy alien locations in his head when he wrote his first script.
