Predators from original two films looked like safari hunters from far corners of cosmos - humanoid amphibian-insects, perfectly comfortable with running around and jumping trees/walls in trunks and sandals (or barefoot), yet used pretty damn sophisticated technology for simple needs. They were ruthless yet smart in aproach to humans, which suggested that they hunt us BECAUSE they know we are sentient, and they do not want to bring too much attention to themselves. So, it was a very alien race with tech beyond our understanding and all we saw was a bunch of crazy hunters lookin' for good sport.

New design doesnt look neither tribal nor futuristic to a degree where you can look at it and understand what it actually is.
The mask and parts of the armor (red lights on the back, etc) look too futuristic and too clean/polished by the standarts of original movies. And yet the overall look is still light, with nets on legs and torso, bare arms and bare foot. Plus it has primitive feel to it because of big round highlighted areas and samurai/Greek like *** armor.
No one can say what the **** it supposed to be, because it's a ***king mess.

What’s worse is... apparently this guy can’t even hunt simians, reptilia or rodents. Not one single trophy. :lol
See, that's what I was talkin' about.
If he had overall futuristic look and full armor then people wouldn't even think about stuff like trophies.

I'm assuming (minor spoiler that I seem to remember hearing about) this is one of the pet Predators that the humans dressed up, it's the only explanation. It looks so bad and so out of line with their established look.

That's not the case. This is the runaway Pred from the begining of the film.
Here he is, killin' Stargaser stuff before takin' his gear back, breakin' out and makin' his way to the kid:

If you don't believe me, compare the belt and codpiece.

I'm suprised they haven't made a prequel to Predator, focusing on the team that was killed before the first film begins. I'd see that movie.

You seemingly read my mind from across the world because I was thinking exactly that about an hour ago while I was vacuuming :lol

And 'The Predator' would have been a more apt title for a film that actually has the original Predator in it.

However I agree with Snake, probably better to leave it to our imagination.

Hopper's men probably weren't much of a challenge to Pred considering he didn't take their skulls and just skinned, gutted and hung them up for display instead.

Got to wonder if the outcome would have been the exact same for Dutch and his team had they been first squad to arrive and didn't know what to expect. They were likely tougher sure, but seeing those skinned bodies put them on guard.

There was three more that we didn't see. In the original script, we were going to see his ship which was his "camp" and there was going to be quite a few stretched out skins on racks and that probably would of included Hopper's men.

I always found Hopper's little subplot disturbing since they lost, and were "skinned alive." It's funny, he's just a skinned corpse in it for one scene but felt like he had a substantial role in it. It's a little seed planted in the audience's head very early to show that if they don't kill this thing, it's going to happen to them too.

"They did the same thing to Jim Hopper."

Predator is all about subtly and what's implied. There's no reason to piss into the soup with another unneeded prequel.
