I take it everyone has read the alternate Dutch ending to Predators:

The scene would have had the human survivors sitting bloody and beaten in the jungle. The silence is interrupted by a vibration that grows until it sounds like a freight train is bearing down on them. Once the dust cloud settles, a Predator is is revealed. The door opens and dozens of Predators file out. The humans are screwed now. There’s nowhere to run and even if there was, they don’t have the energy for any more fighting. The Predators don’t attack but part with two single-file lines on each side of the door. Their leader, with armor covered in “trophies,” exits and walks towards them. He slowly removes his helmet to reveal… DUTCH (Schwarzenegger). “Not bad kid…not bad at all,” he says. SMASH TO BLACK.

If Arnie was available this would have happened. Between Fox and Rodriguez they would have destroyed Dutch's character in about 30 seconds of screentime.
I'm so glad they didn't do this. :lol

Yeeah I'd say, rescue specialist now likes to kill people just ****s and giggles? :lol

Rodriguez turned this franchise to full retard.
the comic sequel shared the same fate...

latest

wtf were they thinking. idiots.
Wth? What comic is that?

Yeah it's bad but it's not as bad as those Alien/Human/Predator hybrids from the kenner figures back in the day.

A 4 armed Predator sounds about as tolerable as the Predalien, but I don't know how bad tha comicbook you posted is.

The made a sequel to predators in comic form. Brody has to fight that thing

Robert Rodriguez just lost it totally after 1996 or so. Though I do think the Sin City sequel is underrated.

I don't think he's outta juice.

SIN CITY (2005) was excellent. Specifically The Hard Goodbye segment. Mickey ATE the role of Marv and Rodriguez beautifully brought back one of the greatest actors of all time and introduced him to people who hadn't seen him in his prime (ANGEL HEART, THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE, DINER, BARFLY, RUMBLE FISH, YEAR OF THE DRAGON, BODY HEAT) or at all. Mickey even got a standing ovation at Cannes that year.

PLANET TERROR (2007) was good too. Shot as a 'B' movie yet given good material and performances.

MACHETE (2010) was fantastic political satire and 'B' movie madness. Dug that.

Its the sequels to Desperado, Sin City & Machete that I think he failed to deliver on. He just can't seem to recapture the magic of a fresh concept. A DAME TO KILL FOR should have been great, but was a huge letdown. Not terrible, just not memorable.

I'll always commend Rodriguez for bringing back Mickey Rourke. Even if the comeback only lasted ten years.

I can't fault filmmakers who make movies to pay the bills when they're not making passion projects.

Actors are even worse (pretty much the entire cast of The Avengers does those movies for money).

So like, every actor ever.

No, you have people like Daniel Day Lewis, Matthew McConaughey, Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio (just to name a few) who won't make films they don't love.

That's pretty much why McConaughey and Phoenix turned down their Marvel offers. Fortunately, the corporate machine can't get to everyone.

no, no no no..noooo my friend. those spy kids were not "pay the bills" kind of movies, that was predators, for example.

spy kids was his own ideas for kids. they were not adaptations or anything like that. desperado and spy kids franchises are his legacy

A total fail

what did McConaughey and Phoenix turn down?

Maybe they are waiting for a DC offer......

Some actors can't be bought. And the MCU went into safe mode a while back. The Favreau era/pre-Disney MCU could have gotten a Joaquin Phoenix or a McConaughey. The new MCU scares away good actors and directors.

They're lucky to have gotten Keaton for Homecoming (after two tries and who knows how much money).

what did McConaughey and Phoenix turn down?

Phoenix turned down Doctor Strange because he wasn't comfortable with a multi-picture deal. That, and he's not really a fan of film franchises/blockbusters, be they Star Wars/Trek, Marvel, DC or Valiant. McConaughey has never officially passed on anything because he was never rumoured for a specific role. Both companies have sent him scripts and talked to him, but that never amounted to anything more than rumours. The closest thing to McConaughey passing on an official role was when he, supposedly, passed on GotG 2's Villain, but that was reported only once, and considering what we know about the film, isn't that accurate. Either way: https://batman-news.com/2015/10/28/matthew-mcconaughey-marvel-dc/

So, yeah, actors such as them are simply not interested in franchises with constraints and silly stories. Which is fair enough, but is kinda hypocritical when you're lending your voice to kids' animated movies. But I wouldn't hold my breath for Phoenix starring as Doctor Fate or McConaughey rocking the GL tights. The best you can hope for is something from an indie title. McConaughey would make a good Death from East of West, or even Spider Jerusalem.
