There was no way in hell anyone could buy into the notion that Adrian Brody was a champion of the human race.

Real Navy SEALs, Green Berets, CCTs, Marine Force Recon...they don't look like Schwarzenegger. They look like Brody did in that movie.

Its one thing to have a preference of an action icon over a superb actor, but to say the most dangerous people on this earth look like Schwarzenegger or Stallone is a completely inaccurate viewpoint.

Looks like this new scrawny dude is following in the footsteps of Brody

That scrawny dude can act & actually looks like like a real soldier, not a bodybuilder.

Go ahead and show me where I ever said that.

And Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Liam Neeson and Daniel Craig all look like bodybuilders? Go read what I actually said dude.

But not because of Glover right?

"He didn't kill you because you aren't from the MCU. No sport."

*Henry Cavill runs off to the chopper*

Nothing could've matched Predator 1, I was quite pissed in the theater watching that movie lol.

But yeah Glover wasn't the main problem though.

If we're going the whole "realistic" military hero route then fine but then I want to see a battalion of soldiers with tanks, apaches and jets doing the fighting like in a Godzilla movie, not just one heroic skinny soldier representing that.

Dutch, Matrix and Rambo were so macho to me that they represented the entire military in my eyes all rolled up into their look.

See where i'm coming from when it comes to action movies.

Sure Mclane was bad ass in Die Hard 1, but he wasn't fighting a Predator.

Craig is such a bass ass Bond that he even makes his weaker Bond movies (QOS/Spectre) fun to watch.

The dude just elevates the Bond character.

Yep, screen presence trumps acting ability in high concept testosterone flicks like Predator. I remember karamazov saying that Meryl Streep should have been Wonder Woman a couple years back and while you absolutely can make a case for her acting ability I just can't agree that she would have been right for the role.

Brody is a great actor but if I'm ever watching a Predator movie and thinking "I could take him" about the main hero then they've failed massively.

Depends on the main antagonist.

Mclane in Die Hard was a regular small dude that won with his smarts, anyone of those bad guys could've over powered him.

But against a Predator monster then the main antagonist does need to look tough to sell me the battle.

To state you could take him is to state you can take a SEAL or a Ranger.

You reject Brody because you fail to understand its not Brody the actor fighting a Predator but rather a Special Ops. soldier the Yautja were clearly impressed with.

I thought Brody was OK honestly. They emphasised more his battle wits and his speed than his 'brawn'.....

His Hot Toys figure was great. Kinda wish I still had it.

Well Dutch won with smarts too but if that's all a character has in a Predator movie then I think that kind of defeats the purpose of having a clash of champions between two worlds IMO. I liked the direction they went with Danny Glover. He wasn't super buff, nor was he a genius but he was just so damn bold and in your face that it translated to luck when he needed it most.

True about Dutch with his smarts but his brawn helped sell to me that it was one bad ass vs another bad ass that was lurking in the dark jungle.

I think there's a time and a place for the less "alpha male" type heroes. Reese in the first Terminator is a great example. But the whole point of The Terminator was to show that regular people could be destined for great things and Reese had to kind of be an off-shoot of what Sarah would one day become. But with the Predator films the whole point is that he takes on these larger than life protagonists. Terminator vs. Kyle Reese is great. Predator vs. Kyle Reese, not so much IMO.

What's with the "buts," I'm agreeing with you dude. ;) Dutch was awesome because he HAD the brawn...but it wasn't enough. He had to add brains on top of brawn to win.

In what way did Cooper play it better than Brody though? I've only seen American Sniper once, I may not be remembering aspects of his performance or scenes that made him more SEALY

Cooper just felt like a legit soldier to me. Brody felt like a character actor pretending to be one.

Wrong. To state "I can take him" is to state that I don't BELIEVE he's a SEAL or Ranger. Big difference. Cooper made me believe in American Sniper. Brody didn't come close.

Yup.

At the end of the day what we're watching is fantasy where the visuals is just as important as the realism.

It just makes visual sense to have big dudes fight a Predator, that simple.

In real life a 9 year old can shoot a special forces soldier in the head and be the victor.

So had Brody grown a beard you would have believed him a SEAL.

Here's SEAL Team 7. No Schwarzeneggers here, just real dangerous men [with beards].

Nope, I can tell that each and every one of those guys is a badass with a killer instinct and Cooper matched their look. Even with a beard Brody would still look like he'd get chewed up and spit out by everyone in that pic.

Well, ANY human from a 4 year old to a 100 year old is armed and dangerous when holding a loaded weapon.

A human army vs a Predator army would be cool I guess but one human vs a Predator I want Terry Crews lol.

Yep, there's a reason that real life soldiers often get "visual upgrades" when movies are made about them. (Not always, since the real Chris Kyle was pretty buff.)
