Without the gear that might aswell be a bunch of hipsters. :lol

I don't know, I'm not quite getting this.

lolololololol

I'm with a-dev, the only way I would be excited over these dudes fighting Predators would be if it was an all out visual assault involving military vehicles, something like the tank street battle in Cloverfield but much larger in scale.

If not that then give me a big ****ing dude.

As someone who served (Airborne),

You probably should have led off with that because people who serve in the military or as police officers often have a different perspective on what should appear on film. I would wager that most action/war movies probably make you roll your eyes because you instantly see everything that is "wrong." Top Gun is a joke to actual military pilots, but to us civvies it's great. :D

Its pretty simple. You got a few posters here who don't understand that American troops look normal. They're not as big as bodybuilders or look intimidating at all. I've known Rangers who look like school teachers.

Jeremy Renner was brilliant casting in The Hurt Locker because that's a very standard look for soldiers. Same goes for Krasinski and pretty much the entire cast of 13 Hours.

I assume Hawkins was your favorite character in the original movie then? Nothing wrong with wanting 13 Hours vs. Predator. But to take someone else's preference and make the claim that they "don't understand what real troops look like" is silly. We all know that there is a disconnect from reality and fantasy when it comes to action films, and in most cases, rightly so.

I love the 80s, man. It was a larger than life time for depictions of the military. Rambo, Matrix, Braddock, Dutch's rescue team...McClane was always my favorite because he was the real deal. Probably served in 'Nam and then went into law enforcement. Willis looked like a real guy and McTiernan made him extremely vulnerable to ground him. I love his Schwarzenegger joke because it reminds you that McClane is a guy who's in our world watching movies like Predator and Commando.

Remember, Ventura was the real deal and a big dude. He was the only real soldier on set. The whole team was solid cinematically. My fav will always be Billy.

*For the record I'd love to see Arnold in this movie. I'm all for Holbrook because he looks like a real soldier and can really act but I'd happily welcome Arnold back. This franchise began with Dutch just like Alien began with Ripley (who we're getting back via Blomkamp's ALIENS sequel).

See if you go back to my original post I'm not saying that a Predator movie can't have some scrawny authentic looking dude like Holbrook (I assume that's the name of the underwear model posted a couple pages back?) It's just that to *me* Predator films are about putting the Predator against the top tier action hero types of whatever current era. And if you ignore the superhero craze for a moment then our top-tier guys right now are vigilantes and spies. That's why I *don't* think that some pro wrestler type would be the way to go.

I think they should do what they did with the first two films and take someone who has already proven himself on screen as a believable badass and make him the primary foe of the Predator. He can be buff or skinny just so long as he feels like the real deal. Since current action stars are trending toward the leaner side I'd go that route in this day and age. Seriously now, Jack Reacher against a Predator? Tell me that wouldn't be epic.

Keep your realism
