huh?

I think sculpted clothes look more realistic and get the job done better than actual cloth on a statue. More often times than not, the cloth doesn't lay properly or look right because of the weight and thickness vs the actual scale that it is in.

Very well said Nash, I agree with your one vs the other arguement but Capt. America looks Damn Nice in a PF but I am more partial to Comiquette's

Captain is still one of (if not) the most impressive Marvel PF to date, IMO. SS pulled off the Thor PF beautifully as well.

I love PF Hulk but Thor is my favorite mixed media Marvel piece, more than all the others.

Hulk is Hulk, large, bad ass and a must own but Thor is extremely impressive in person. He will always remain in the center spot of my Marvel collection.

So what Marvel PF has clothes that don't lay properly? And what Comiquette has spandex painted on that looks more realistic than um...real spandex?

are you sure it's not just because he's the tallest and would look silly on the side :naughty

I'm not a Indy fan so you are talking to the wrong guy. I ONLY collect marvel statues. But, to answer your question: YES! Comiquettes are always superior to PF dolls seven day of the week and twice on Sundays. Gifted painters can make stone look like ANYTHING. That includes leather, cloth, jeans, spandex, metal, or any other thing that someone would wear. That is what makes painters and sculpters artists. Leave the tailored clothes for Ken and Barbie dolls.

Meh I disagree, it all depends on the character and I will go back to my example of Indy even though you aren't a fan. Indy have a sculpted bag and gun holster would be major caca at that scale.

Did I specifically say i was referring to Marvel only? You said there is no sense in 'sculpting' pants to look like pants when you could just use 'real pants'.

I think marvel is actually one of the more forgiving PF lines BECAUSE of the costume designs that are mainly spandex.

But if youre saying that cloth pants, shirt, or jackets at 1/4 scale or even on a 1/6th figure will look better and more dynamic than purely sculpted pants, i'd have to fully disagree with you. With fully sculpted pieces, you can get the exact fabric folds that you want, given whatever dynamic situation you want to be in. such as a wind effect, etc.

That is the same thing as saying, "why sculpt hair when you can actually use real hair?". because 99% of the time sculpted hair will look more natural and dynamic than actual doll hair.

And for the record, as great a piece as Thor PF turned out to be, I actually think that it would have looked way better had it been fully sculpted. Something about his costume just doesnt look up to it's full potential. and some people say it looks too much like an onesie. Even Cap and Hulk, looks great and is one of the better PFs, but if youve seen the pics of those bootleg recasted Cap and Hulk PFs fully sculpted, you'd agree that they look superior to the cloth ones.

EDIT:

Foud the pics

There is no way you can tell me those do not look better than the PFs with actual cloth. :D

I 100% agree Nash. Cloth of any kind cover a sculpt. Why would anyone want that? If you paint a costume over a sculpt every amazing detail of the sculpt remains. All the muscle definition is there for everyone to see. Putting cloth/spandex on a sculpt removes that element far too often IMHO. Any statue can work as a comiquette. Not every one can as a PF.

Please don't even get me started on using "real" hair on a sculpt. The same people that say we can adjust the PF costume will say that we can brush their hair into whatever position we want. Sigh, all we need then is hair spray to keep it in place.

I tend to agree, but when it comes to certain PF's the cloth or leather adds alot to the piece. The leather on Lurtz, Zerker, or Indy's jacket, pants comes to mind. It is apples and oranges, but the cloth does work well on some pieces. The one I really never "got" was the blue pants on Abomination, those should have been sculpted IMO.

Well we are talking about Marvel pieces, but okay, what's another PF from any other line that has clothes that don't fit right? Something in Bowen scale, sure sculpted looks better than cloth, but IMO when done right (which is the operative word) the PF look just as good or better than a comiquette.

As for the hair, I disagree as well (and again it's because we're all discussing when things are done right). If you look at ^^^^ty examples of rooted hair of course, but if you look at a lifesize bust that Sideshow puts out vs. something Bobby C. puts out and tell me which looks more lifelike.

And finally, those statues you posted look like an ass sammich. Definitely not better than the PFs. They look like they were colored with chalk.

Do you like the look of spandex? That is the kiss of death for me as a collector. Nothing looks worse than the use of spandex on a sculpt. It just seems to cheapen a statue. It gives off that Adam West in a Batman costume feel to me.

For example, Would you like the soon to be released Thanos statue to be a PF with blue spandex for his costume? I honestly think I would hurl after seeing something like that.

Hell yeah! I love the look of spandex. I wear it out everyday.

I dont see how you can use 1:1 scale as a comparison when the whole point was that cloth or hair doesnt look right when in a smaller scale. if it's lifesize, it's just going to be like adding hair to a wig, or a shirt to a person, of course it will look fine.

Ass sammich? hardly....even if those are recasts, the sculpted cloth parts make the statues look way better. to each his own.

I think the spandex looks crappy for the most part. But I have always loved the way the spidey PF turned out, and will own one one day, even if they make a comiquette.:D
