I didnt know there was a thread like this, as of October 2010 i have lost over 8 and a half stone, the good old fashioned way of eating better and exercise. i applaud anyone for making the decsion for a healthy lifestyle. i will get some pictures together and post them up soon

I've never posted in this thread. I used to weigh 240 pounds, now I'm at 185.

I really understand and appreciate what a lot of you go through to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It's a lot of work, but the payoff is great. And believe me, it doesn't get any easier as you get older.

I had an unfortunate trim accident and now my beard is down from 240 to 185.:(

I thought I would never, ever do it. But here I am, joining my fellow freaks in the fitness thread.

It's about time that I not only work out to look good, but to stay healthy, too. Funny thing is, I'm actually enjoying it this time around. Every other time I've exercised, I've dreaded it. Now I am just loving it and I look forward to the workout. So obviously someone is giving me some kind of drugs.

It is the endorphin high. Congrats BG!

Alright here's my progress shots. Far left is day 1. Middle is week 4. Far right is week 9. I'm trying my hardest to get rid of my belly fat under my belly button and on the handles but it just won't go anywhere. I'm all ears if anyone has experience getting rid of this ____. I know you can't spot reduce, but there's got to be a secret I'm missing. I'm eating right, lifting 4 days a week, fat burn cardio everyday, supplements along with the diet. Surely it can't stay like this if I keep it up.

Yeah, last year I weighed 143 lbs and I am 5'10". I got really bad with a throat infection and lost nearly 20 lbs. I couldn't take in food solids for over a week. I thought I was going to die. According to that test, I was a normal weight at 20.5. LOL Normal weight my ass. No body fat, and I lost a lot of muscle. At 160ish, I am still very lean and have low body fat, yet I scored at 23.0. According to that thing I am closer to being overweight. Yeah, okay.. if only I can grab fat on me. For me, the muscle is weighing me down. Muscle weighs more than fat. Regardless, I could be 175 at 5'10" and still have low body fat, and according to this thing I would be overweight. Yup, 25.1. I have friends who weigh that and more, and are my height and have no guts or love handles.

So this doesn't go for everyone. This is definitely not an accurate tool IMO. Some people also have more denser bone structures than others, and because of it, weigh more, even though they appear lighter.

btw Pixletwin, going based on your last few pics you're chubby, but hardly obese.

Eli, I'm right there with you......5'10" at 160.

Anyone want to help me with some quick math? I'm doing a p90x/insanity hybrid and trying to lose fat (mainly what's left of my gut), but not necessarily any more weight. Is it easier to lose fat by losing weight, or by just eating enough calories to maintain my weight and hope to lose the fat/gain muscle while maintaining?

That may be a stupid question, but then again, I'm pretty inexperienced in the whole fitness field.

You really have to figure out what sort of physique you want. There is no one build that is best at everything. Guys who are really big work out hours a day and eat and sleep a lot. They have time for little else, plus, they have so much lactic acid circulating through their bodies that they fatigue very quickly compared to much slimmer builds. They also tend to have low flexibility. People with a lot of endurance tend to be very slim, and they simply don't have the strength of bigger guys, but they can move around their own body weight better.
In my mind, the best overall is the gymnast build, which is fairly big and strong, yet is very flexible, with considerable endurance, and that type will allow you to do the most physical tasks.

However, if there is one type of physique you like best, go for that one. See how it is for you. If you don't like it you can always change your training to get another type. For example, Gary Null used to be a power lifter, and one of the three strongest men in his state. Later, he decided to become a World Champion marathon runner and race walker.
Experiment a bit and figure out what you like best.

Gymnasts have amazing bodies. That would be ideal. I'm too addicted to running to give it up. If it takes me below 155 (last years weight before I added ten pounds of muscle) so be it :yess:

Great results man - it's crazy what a little dedication can do in such little time (2 months is nothing). Keep it up!

Cool, thanks. I'm sitting at 5'9 180 and started at 216. Jan15-Aug15. I'm hoping for another 8-10 lbs of fat loss. Here's a nite time pic.

Looking good man. My whole goal was fat loss so that's essentially how I've approached it with my workouts and diet. I'm also a bit militant so my lifestyle change was pretty drastic and extreme for the past few months. I'm about 5-10 lbs. from where I want my weight to be before I switch back to a muscle focus.

Fractured a rib trying to push a stuck car. The height of my inhales and exhales are pretty painful. 6 weeks no running is what was recommended.

Anyone have experience with this type of injury?

Youch.... Sorry to hear that man. I pulled a rib cage muscle a few weeks ago, and it was pretty painful. Can't imagine what a fractured rib feels like! Hope you have a speedy recovery....
