Ski, I do nothing but drink water. I usually have a morning coffee or tea. But I use fat free milk and also Ideal sugar.

Some mornings 100% whole wheat toast, less then a teaspoon light margarine. Boiled egg (some times). If not that for breaky, I have a small bowl of fiber cereal.

Lunch is fruit/veggies. And sometimes (like today) a 70 calorie yogurt. No calories from fat.

Dinner (like tonight) grilled chicken breast, small veggie side, etc. I have been doing this for years and I've always been able to lose weight. For some reason, this time around...I can't. no matter how much I work out. Which I do daily btw.

I understand BG, yea its looking like the metabolism is winning the fight here with a slight change as you and I grow older.

Try and lower that amount of diary that you have there, it's natural sugars even though it's healthy (between a reg glass of milk and one cup of yogurt is usually 30 grams of sugars: 22 in the milk and 9 or so on the yogurt :monkey4). One thing everyone must remember is that eating healthy is not the same as bodybuilding and to change your body is not necessarily eating the healthy foods but the "right" foods. The amount of sugars, carbs are crucial on this. It's the elements of sugars that stimulate fat production, carbs that hold water, sodium is also another one of those deals that retain water as well which adds to the extra lbs.

Try to take out the milk, yogurt, cereal and replace those meals with either a high protein meal kind of like your dinner meal with high protein meat, a better carb such as oats will be better than a cereal as well.

Do this for a week and keep to the training you are doing and see if that changes the effect. Diary is one of those deals that can stop the fat burning process on people, it does on me for sure. I can lose 2lbs a week towards a show very steadily until I drink a glass of milk for that week and my body stores that type of food on my end. It's different for everybody but you have to play a trial and error game weekly to see what foods effect your body at this time in age to find out what the magic formula is whenever lbs losing stalls.

Hey Ski quick question. My goal was to get as low bf% as possible before my 38 birthday on Sep 2. I've got good obl showing through but still having trouble with the lower abs. I'm taking in 1750-1850 kcals. Should I go to 1600-1700 2nd week out and then maybee 1500 last week?

Last steps before getting last tid bit of fat is where I drop my carbs to almost nothing and maybe 1 piece of fruit. Maybe drop the cal intake by 100 but not much lower than that because then your body will stall again.

At that point it's about chicken breast, egg whites, veggies, maybe up the fat slightly while decreasing in carbs (nuts, avocados, etc)

and if you aren't doing two sessions a day of cardio, then it's time to start that as well. At the end of the week lower the water intake if you are drinking gallons for the last couple days of the week. Thurs and Fri should be nice ab showing days by a reduce of the water. The body will dry and soak up like a sponge. :lecture Dry looking is meaning the definition really starts to pop and then the shred look is coming to play. Redo the next week for better results, and reduce water by Wed instead of Thurs.

I don't eat yogurt everyday. I was just giving you a general idea. But I drink Smart Balance milk. It's fat free, has omega 3's and is rBST free as well. That stuff is fabulous! And when I have it, I have less then half a glass.

It's definitely my age, along with just getting my body back in shape. Building muscle now, that I didn't have. So my weight I guess isn't going down due to that. So hopefully things will change in another week or so. I'll be letting ya know.

And also, I don't think I'll be able to change my diet up that much. Because I really still want to enjoy eating. I don't want to feel depressed about it. Haha. So like I said...I'll be in here in about 5 days to let you know how my current regimen is doing.

Cool, thanks. I'm already doing a keto based diet with high fat, low carbs +1 gm of protien per lb of lbm. I might go another month if needed but the goal was to get as low as possible for bday. After that will be bulk time for 3/4 month and starting again in Jan 12.

Yea that's got a lot to do with it, like I said and will iterate changing the body and eating healthy are two different things.

I know people look at fitness magazines and see these guys/gals all shredded and tone looking but the overall big picture there is that these models, fitness bodybuilders also look like that for a week or so, it's pretty much false advertising unless you are just bless by god with amazing genes.

Good point on the muscle being in replacing the over weight distribution though, that is sometimes true. Although I strongly think the diet will have to change or at least the amount of calories burnt will have to increase if you stay at a stalling weight. If you happy with the body physique with the giving diet and exercise regimen then there's nothing to change, otherwise something HAS to give. :monkey1

I say give it a shot and reduce that dairy intake, go just "1" week without any of it and I'm about 98% positive that you will drop more of the fat, water, look toner, etc.

Good luck BG.

For me, I think I'm over stressing it. First off I haven't even been back on the horse (so to speak) for two and a half weeks. Only hitting the 2 week point. Second I'm so stressed and not sleeping well, that it has to be affecting my body. I'm going to do what I can to get more sleep, and also to stop stressing about this. And just keep things up for a while longer. If I don't see results, I'll try some new things and then if nothing still...I'll go to the doc.

Hey BG! :wave

You're trying to lose weight? You looked good in your pic during chat! Is this for the wedding?

I agree with the Skiman on just about everything. On thing I would add about dairy is that if you do drop dairy, make sure you're supplementing with calcium pills or some absorb-able calcium somewhere in your diet. Otherwise the body will start stealing it from your bones. :(

Also, another way to drop weight quickly is change your running style. The body adapts to exercise very quickly, so you need to challenge it with increasing length and/or intensity in your running. I'm not sure what you're running patterns are, but if you're doing 3 miles each and every day at the same pace (not fluctuating your heart rate), you'll probably peak very quickly. I would recommend changing the length of your runs and/or the intensity. You can change the below program however your body sees fit, but wanted to give you something to start with -

M - long distance, easy pace
T - short distance (50% of M), medium pace
W - medium distance (75% of M), medium pace
Th - short distance (50% of M), hard pace
F - long distance (100% of M), hard pace
Sat & Sun - rest

Something else that has always worked for me is to throw in some wind sprints during your runs (or use T and Th to do this specifically). Wind sprints are - when you're running, kick up your pace for a set amount of time (10-30 sec to start) to get your heart rate pumping, then go back to your original pace. Do this a couple of times during your run, increasing the number of wind sprints in each run as your body adapts. I have found this to increase fat burning more than any other aerobic exercise.

Good luck with your goals however you decide to tackle them!

Buffy unless you're doing HIIT cardio you need to keep your heart rate in a fat burning zone (which is low) and go for a longer period of time. If you're running for 3 miles you need to make sure you're heart rate isn't in a cardio state. A good rule of thumb is to stay at a pace where you can hold down a conversation while you're jogging, or walking at a brisk pace. I'll use myself as an example. I'm in decent shape and to burn fat my heart rate needs to stay in the 120s. To keep my heart in that zone I've figured out that I can cover 3 miles in 60 minutes at a brisk walking pace. Now the inverse of that just for a comparison is if I were to jog or run 3 miles it would take me around 25-30 minutes and my heart rate would be up in the 150-165 range. I wouldn't have burned nearly as much fat doing the jog even though I would feel much more exerted afterwards.

:lecture agreed to all the above, I did forget that I supplement with calcium almost all the time since I'm really not getting diary in my diet at all.

The HIIT methods do indeed work great, all the suggestions stated up above are great to keep that fat burner process a go! :)

Bah, it all starts here. See, told you I needed more time. I weighed myself and I actually went down three pounds. So um, enough worry from me. :slap

Gibby...yeah, but just a few lbs, and then I'll be busy toning.

BG you are doing great ! You are looking great and having those toned legs is only a super plus ! I am sure with your diligence you will make the changes you desire. Keep it up. I had an off week due to some schedule issues last week, only getting in twice, but I'm back in today and going to hit it hard ! Can't wait !

What are your thoughts on the Almond Milk. I was using unsweetened Almond milk with like cheerios as a supplement to my oatmeal in the mornings.

Good job JJJ. I just got back from the gym a bit ago. Going at night was just a big no-no as I wasn't sleeping. I'm telling you, working out at night is great, until you go to bed and are stuck with your thoughts for several hours. So I decided AM it is.

I've never had almond milk JJJ. Probably never will. I'm pretty hooked on my Smart Balance. But hopefully someone can help you.

Slowly getting back into cardio after the weights. Gotta get rid of this gut and all that Mickey D's I had this summer. :lol

Thanks BG. I am sure you will do well. I work out early evening and it works for me. But if it is interfereing with your sleep you need to make an adjustment.

I am sure you are doing awesome!

The gym at our complex is filled up early evening. Slots for both Jenn and I open at 9pm. So that's why I wasn't sleeping...But I'm going for 8:30am now.

That's weird, I'm the opposite. If I workout late at night, I get home dead tired and almost fall asleep on the drive :lol
