Hi guys, I need some advice. This past year I've been working on my weight and gotten from 264 pounds (ouch!) to 176, just by changing my eating habits and living healthy.

Now I want to move on to the next step and get into shape (to qutoe American beauty: "I want to look good naked" :lol ).

Problem is I've never done much sports or fitness in my life so I have no idea where to start. I'm looking for a program to commit to which will reward me with a more ripped body in several months. I heard a lot about P90x; is that something you guys recommend? Or are there other interesting, similar programs?

Thanks everybody! :1-1:

You guys should type in dairy is bad? Or milk is bad? On YouTube. Milk is casien. There's some of them with very well known doctors. Also the movie forks over knifes will go into details about whey protien. Just my 2 cents for info on whey. Not saying you should not take it, just saying look at the info just to know about it more. It's very interesting indeed.

Hi buddy,

When you say you want to LGN, do you mean Brad Pitt in Fight Club or do you mean Christian Bale in Begins or perhaps the Rock in Welcome to the Jungle?

Each would be different styles of workout.

Recommendations that I'd make would be to try "Tabata" training for cardio.
It's short, sharp, intense and very effective for improving aerobic and anaerobic fitness, and burning fat.
Essentially 4 minute round, with 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. You could do it sprinting, on a stationary cycle, elliptical, or burpees, clean and press etc etc.. very versatile.
There's a good "free" app in the app store for iOS called "Tabata Timer" which simply does the timing for you.
Just note that when I say "20 seconds on" I mean 20 seconds of pure, balls-to-the-wall, everything-you've got, intensity.

I'd also recommend doing compound exercises.. if you have access to a gym, this would be Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press, Pull-ups etc...

If you don't, or would prefer to do bodyweight, then you can do the same with pull-ups, push-ups, burpees etc...

I haven't personally tried Insanity or that P90 stuff.. but a lot of the folks over at fitocracy are onto it and giving it real solid reviews.

:)

I looked that up today. There is a place close to me but no way can I afford the cost. Back in my single days it wouldn't have been an issue.

Yeah, it isn't cheap. I use it as extra motivation to go so that I get my money's worth. Also, my insurance covers a chunk of it so it is much more reasonable. You should check to see if your company's insurance will cover it.

We heard you the first time. Seems no one took your bait and wish to discuss other topics.

As to the other topics, always look at the source of who is paying for the research for said product. Remember the people telling us we need a fast protein source w/in the magic 30 minute window od working out are the same ones trying to seel us their stuff.

Dude the price is retarded, I wanted to do it also, 150$ per month only three times a week, **** that, they are just ripping people off cuz its a fad

I don't have kids yet, but I hear you on the daycare costs. My sister tells me what she pays and I just go :horror Expensive, but they are worth it.

They are. Half is here now the other arrives on or around December 6th. That's when life gets really fun! :lol:rock

Mine is $125/month unlimited. With insurance, I pay $75/month. I go 4-5 times a week which comes out to about 20 times/month. So I end up paying ~3.75 per session.

Thats a steal, at that price id do it but i already pay 50$ p/m at my regular gym so another 150$ is out of the question

The other thing you guys could try is if you are Amazon users, join the Amazon local in your area and they send out coupons for limited trial offers. You might have to be patient as the crossfit coupons only come around once every couple of months.

Nah, I wasn't trying to bait you or anyone. Maybe you took it the wrong way? Lol...I was just responding to put the info there if anyone wants to see it. It's your choice. :1-1:

Yeah - CrossFit looks freaking awesome. I try to incorporate some of those principles into my training.

Sadly, I can't afford the local crossfit gyms - they're in the 250+ a month range. Yeah. Outrageous.

There's a lot of people who poo-poo crossfit regarding injuries etc.. but frankly, it's just functional fitness. I'm not a poo-poo-er.

Thanks for the great tips! When I'm talking LGN, I'm thinking Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love :monkey3 Hey, a guy has to have some goals, right? :wink1:

I'll certainly look into the Tabata thing and the compound exercises. This stuff is all new to me...

Another great tip, thanks man. There's a CrossFit-center a few streets away apparently, never knew it. Might look into it as well...

Are there any good websites where I could find some training exercises I can do at home? Some reliable sites with stuff that are also good for beginners?

Sorry for all these noob-questions guys! :peace
