Thanks for the great tips! When I'm talking LGN, I'm thinking Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love
Hey, a guy has to have some goals, right?
I'll certainly look into the Tabata thing and the compound exercises. This stuff is all new to me...
Another great tip, thanks man. There's a CrossFit-center a few streets away apparently, never knew it. Might look into it as well...
Are there any good websites where I could find some training exercises I can do at home? Some reliable sites with stuff that are also good for beginners?
Sorry for all these noob-questions guys!
That's a good goal to have!
Don't be sorry for the questions mate - everyone has to start at some point and, frankly, the sheer volume of information out there that contradicts itself is mind-boggling.
There are some good iPhone apps out there that have exercises programs with video and pictures of how to perform the exercises.
And, additionally, for motivation - I really would encourage you check out fitocracy.com - it's like facebook made sweet, sweet love to your workout diary and then gamified it. Awesome place full of awesome people. If you get on, hook me up - same username. Additionally, this site has some basic programs available and the forums are full of tips, instructions and feedback that is not hostile (unlike most online fitness forums).
I find that bodybuilding.com and simplyshredded.com often have interesting articles. (But the forums at bodybuilding.com are flame filled).
The bodyspace feature at bodybuilding.com is a great way to track your own progress. (Also has an accompanying iPhone app)
On the topic of tracking progress, take measurements and photos buddy. Because sometimes you'll feel like you're not making progress, but when you look back over your pictures you'll realise that you were and it's really motivating.
Besides, if you don't measure it, you can't manage it.
As to exercises and starting at home.. well, it's a bit dependent on the kit you've got available.
Do you have any weights or equipment?
I'd start out by conditioning your body to train... simple bodyweight exercises are good. Especially compound ones.
The difference between a compound exercise and an isolation exercise is that a compound exercise uses multiple muscles at once. Typically more than one set of joints work for a compound.. so a pull-up is a compound exercise, but a bicep curl is an isolation exercise.
Shoot to do compounds as much as possible.
Home bodyweight exercises:
- Pull Ups
- Chin Ups
- Push Ups
- Bodyweight Squats
- Bodyweight Lunges
- Burpees
- Planks
- Dips
^^ you should be able to do most, if not all of those, without any kit.
If you start picking up equipment, then you'll be able to do a load more.
But personally, given the cost of building a home setup, I'd probably recommend a gym membership. Plus you can get help from others and inspiration.
I'm MORE than happy to talk about this stuff indepth mate - so feel free to continue in the thread or PM.
