Say what you think, defend your opinions to a point, and be respectful of others regardless of their opinions. We get pretty carried away here, but in the end we all collect friggin toys. So what? I can be critical, but I say it's a good thing. Critisism leads to advancment.

PBK speaks the truth... :rock

I don't have anyone on ignore and don't see myself doing that any time soon. I, like Customikey, want to know what my enemies will say about me...:lol

I think sometimes we all get a little too personal about our opinions and get upset with the people who have the very opposite opinion... but that doesn't make it right. Josh is a good guy, and while I agree with him most of the time.. I do know he can get a little hot under the collar pretty quickly when SSC is challenged. It's just his loyalty... a thing I totally understand.

When someone would try and talk smack about my squadron when I was in the Navy... I'd get pretty angry about it... even if it was true. I was just deadly loyal and didn't want to know that the coin had any other side but "heads".

I still think that putting someone on ignore is like quitting a fight in the first round, just because you think you took more punches than you should have. Don't quit... just get back out there and do it again... Sooner or later you will both be tired and not care about it anymore. At least that's my experience anyway....

Personally, I am not really concerned if someone gets offended when I criticize Sideshow and/or their products. We are the ones paying for their items so we should be able to express our opinions and voice concern when it is warranted. This is the Sideshow DISCUSSION forum, not the Sideshow Mutual Affection Forum. Just because some people are less picky it doesn't mean that the more discerning(or "anal" as Irish put it in another thread) collectors should just sit back and accept an inferior product.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad SS has the Star Wars license and I've bought several of their items over the last year, but I will never be an "apologist" and just accept everything they put out as being without flaw. I don't see anything wrong with calling them out when the situation warrants it and I hope the freedom to speak our minds will continue to be allowed on this forum. Otherwise, this place will be just as intolerable as Rebelsum has become.

Strange indeed Irish....just when I thought you two were seeing eye to eye after your return to the forums.

I even told Josh he needed to get laid, and he still didnt put me on ignore :lol

I agree, you need a diverse group of opinions. The Darth Maul looks amazing, and there was really very little negative comments. I think the Yavin Luke Skywalker looks great as well. The negative comments on the A New Hope Leia are heart felt and do have meaning. We want to love the figures, and for the most part we do. It is this love of the company that we post on these boards, but if their mistakes and problems aren't voiced, Sideshow might get left behind by the likes Hot Toys, Medicom, Dragon, etc. We have to compare them to these companies because that is where their prices are going. Well, you can put me on the ignore list, but that does not solve the problem, nor is it very mature. Discussion brings out new ideas and better insight in the company that we give so much of our resources (time and money) to try to collect and enjoy.

Cheers,

Brad

I wish I could put a certain spouse on ignore when he asks if I have bought anything from SS recently while holding said item box in his hands. :monkey3

I think everyone wishes they could do that.

I enjoy reading everyone's opinions about various products, be it positive or negative criticism.

I hate when someone states the same opinion over and over and over, louder and louder and louder, and increasingly more aggressive towards others who hold a different opinion.

Saying the exact same thing, only with different words is not a counterpoint.

The company I used to work for was having some serious issues about declining business. They had tried all of the typical industry standard methods of increasing business to no avail. So the embarkd on a huge market research project polling customers, studying data about brand loyalty, customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction etc, compiled all of this data and brought it back to the stores and began implementing a strategy of getting everyone focused on customer service and customer perception. One of the key factors was acknowledging that the single most damaging thing to business was customer dissatisfaction, especially in the form of the customer who just quietly leaves and never comes back. The customer who is going to be irrate and storm up to customer service is going to get resolution to their issue, but the one who just gets pissed, and walks away and finds other things to spend their collecting dollars on will eventually kill a company. We all know SSC pays attention to these forums and after all it's free market research for them, so it pays for them to hear the negative comments. If they have the information about what people are unhappy with, then they can make a decision about if its fiscally possible to address it or not. The forums are great sounding boards and they can make people speak up who might otherwise remain silent. The idea of telling people to state their complaint once and then shut up about it, so as to not bring everyone down, is the most detrimental thing you could do to SSC. There is a phrase in business that the squeeky wheel gets the grease, and the more vocal people are about an issue, the more seriously it will be taken.
We all form an identity on message boards like this and our posts generally reflect consistancy. If you constantly post SSC sucks comments or SSC can do no wrong comments people will dismiss you as incapable of voicing an objective opinion. When you look back at the fight between Irish and Josh, Irish accused SSC of price gouging, Josh called him on it and said he had no proof of that. On the other hand Josh has made statements about the price hikes must have other costs and not just greed. So both guys are guilty of the same thing, making an assumption based on their point of view with no real evidence. Irish sees the cost of plastics as being the largest factor in the production costs, but unless we had a total breakdown of the costs incurred we can't know for sure. The same is true for Josh. His "other costs" hold no merit unless we have a breakdown of costs to determine if the extra cash is actually going toward profit or production. SSC is certainly not going to disclose this information so we are left with the information we have and we need to form our opinions according to them. SSC are the ones who need to pay attention those formed opinions because that is what will erode their customer base.
If you're going to post a complaint or praise it should be backed up with something tangible. If you see something wrong, be specific, whether its mascara on Leia or Luke's nose or Mauls eye or even as general as 'I can't place it but it seems off' don't just say "It sucks and is a ripoff' and if its praise say what makes it so great. If you think something is overpriced, use facts to make your case, compare it to similar items, if you feel something is a great deal, use facts to state why. When its compared to a similar item point out what makes it more difficult to produce than another item. I think we should play to our strengths and the areas where our knowledge in certain areas will shed light on things.
If these forums became nothing more than a SSC lovefest then the company would lose a valuable resource in what is good and what can be improved in their business. As members, we need to be aware that the things we post determine whether our opinions are considered or dismissed.

Yup, couldn't have said it better myself. Now this guy knows business.

Well that's entirely my point. Some people on here DO get all personal and nasty. Yet it takes criticism of Sideshow (a multimillion dollar company) to get put on an Ignore List. It's all rather funny, actually. :lol

well I wasnt trying to be nasty, it was more of advice than anything else :lol

Oh, I didn't mean to say you were being nasty there... just pointing out that some people on here take criticism of Sideshow even more personally than they do with personal attacks on themselves.

Personally, I can't take any of this too seriously. We're largely grown men who collect toys, generally expensive toys, and we really don't know each other. Because we might object to a specific opinion or response to an opinion, doesn't define anyone completely.
In the immortal words of Marshall Bing Bell "I don't hold no grudges ma'am. I'm too good for that."

100% Agreed.

Wow . . .must be an honor for Josh to have 12+ pages dedicated to him.
Point missed. This thread wasn't about Josh at all, but rather what his PM to me precipitated... which was me wondering if those who can be critical of Sideshow at times are not welcome by others on here.

I'm glad to say that theory was quickly debunked. :chew

OK-- I'm back for a few minutes after dealing with the real world---where was I? Oh yes, Irish you will pay a thousand deaths for all negative comments towards a certain scoundrel of Bespin and Tom I see that you've magnetically nuked my country... I guess you heard about the Alberta oil sands and Dubya's gonna announce that the Stephen Harper Canadian government is hoarding weapons of mass destruction. It's on absent #42 guy... Oh it's so on....

Oh forget it. I'm tired. I'm putting myself on ignore.:maul

Back later kiddies while I get the little one to bed. Thought I got my first PF (Leia Ex) delivered today but instead it was my first Medicom (Stormtrooper)---man, you guys weren't kidding about that size discrepancy, I even went out to my local "get all area" and picked up some nice extenders from the plumbing section but still he's a good size smaller than the Bespin Han I had him standing next to--- this doesn't bode well for when my Medi Vader arrives... which is why I've taken it upon myself to custamize my own Vader (and at the same time Chewie---glutton for punishment).

What does all this have to do with this thread? I'm sharing-- and that's what a community of like-minded individuals are supposed to do. So lighten up guys and enjoy life. All except Tom and Irish... It's on brothas!:emperor

If being critical of Sideshow gets you run out of the forum I'll be right behind you on the way out because I'm certainly not going to hold my tongue when criticism is warranted.
