No, he knew it was coming, he's a smart guy. You really think the rest of the Tri Boro Mob were gonna let a Boss run around court ratting them out, he knew too much, knew it was coming eventually, believe me he was always a realist and this thing was coming to a head, the scene with his lawyer layed all the cards on the table, that's my point, he would never agree to a deal with the feds so he had to know he still had a target on his back.

Yeah, I see what you are saying.

Thats true, but that doesn't necessarily mean hes preparing for death.

He could just be getting ready for the possibility for a LONG prison stay.

Edit: What happened to Pauls post?

even though I quit watching it after the first few seasons, didnt they leave Oz very open-ended also?

any thoughts/opinions on the finale tonight?

yeah, i didn't really like the ending...

check out the previous 3-4 pages. it's a mixed bag.

Well, from the beginning DC said he never intended on killing Tony and I guess it's up to us.

I think the Bobby quote about you never see it coming pertains more to the viewers than the Soprano family. We, essentially, got whacked.

There is no definitive end to this show. It's all left up to us. Bla!

The whole episode was weak! Did they really need to spend so much time on A.J.? Come on!

The only things I really liked was Phil's death (shot in the head, then crushed like a melon) and Agent Harris' reaction to Phil's death. I laughed out loud at that.

initial reaction: !@#$%^&*&@#$%^&*()!!!!!!! ****!

and ...dammit!

never so pissed at a program before. but after mulling it over i can see the reasoning. imply the death but keep future opportunities open. definitively killing Tony is literally throwing money away. still don't like it though.
definitely think that this episode represented T getting whacked. coulda been a previous hit set up by Phil or even his crew reneging on the agreement and retaliating. also i'm not so sure it was the bathroom guy. they kept focusing on the guy w/ girlfriend sitting behind T and the 2 black guys that walked in before Meadow. i was freaking because there were 4 potential hitters in there heh.

as for T knowing about it and letting it happen...don't buy it. Tony = selfish as ****. also he'd just promised to help AJ out w/ a "career". w/o his income there's no nightclub in AJ's future, thus leaving AJ to his suicidal tendencies. they lived well but for the most part "paycheck to paycheck".
for me he was killed in this episode BUT i'd dig anything more they give us. HBO specials, theatrical release (Xfiles did it), anything. hell a reunion show lol. it could be like the episode where they bumped off Big Puss. all the dead guys gathered at the boardwalk in a dream sequence!!

yep, most stressful 3-4 minutes watching TV. and yeah, thought the Direct TV went out lol. AND I WANT SOME DAMN FIGURES!! Medi, HT, SS, come on!

Initial Reaction...is a Neo.....woah

I had hundreds of discussions with people this week on how it would end, and nobody, and I mean nobody, predicted this.

But when it comes down to it - what can you do in a finale of a series as special as Sopranos that won't be called cliché or similar to another gangster story.

This was the only complete surprise ending - and for that, I'm not too mad.

Sorta happy actually. I like imagining Paulie being harassed by Christopher the Cat for the rest of his life. Or thinking that Sil eventually recovers.

My only major concern is that 20 years from now, we are going to see AJ pitching a new show to HBO...now that would suck.

I actually loved the fade to black. Sopranos was always the mundane side of the Gangster world - the fascinating real life stuff that can't be shown in 3 hours on the big screen. Sure, there was violence and "cliche'" gangster trappings ... but they were the garnish, not the main course. So, why not end it with a family dinner?

P.S. And, as far as I am concerned, Tony lived. Nothing happened. It was the perfect ending, because NO one was expecting it.

I really liked the ending too once it sank in. They didn't go out in a cliche way like Tony going down Scarface style in a big shootout, having a prison door slam in his face, or slowly fading to black with the family all together one last time. They just cut to black in mid action and life goes on. I think it was a very clever way to end it.

Frank Vincent who played Phil Leotardo was interviewed this morning on Opie & Anthony radio show. He said that Tony does NOT get whacked at the diner and he and his family live on with all the same problems he has had for the last several years. He said the talk of a movie has centered around a possible prequel story. He said that the bit with Meadow parking the car was suppose to be a joke because she was driving a car with those new fangled systems that can park it for you all by itself.

I liked how the FBI agent helped Tony. I imagine his sleeping with the other agent helped get him that info to help Tony out. Great death scene for Phil and the business with Christopher Cat was very good. I see tht David Chase directed this himself. The tension certainly built towards the end.

All I can say is WTF? I feel like I wasted my time. There was no closure, nothing. I had been with the series since the beginning and have most all season on DVD. Now I feel cheated.

I have just read over 20 pages of posts over on tvland.com regarding this controversial ending. It looks like there are three main theories

1- David Chase just screwed everybody in the hopes of a big money offer to do a SOPRANOS movie.

2- The ending showed that there is no final resolution to anything, your problems are still with you and life goes on.

3 - A conversation in a previous show between Bobby and Tony in which it is speculated that when you are killed you do not even hear or see it coming and everything just goes black.

After reading all this, thinking about it and visualizing the show, all three could be very correct. Maybe that is the point.

after having a night for it to sink in and reading the past few pages, i think this is the best ending it could have...you get a feel for what it's like to be tony with the last few minutes of the show. plus it left it up to each fan to decide how it ended with plenty of clues/hints to rationalize it ended a number of ways.

Too much A.J. (who I wanted to get whacked since Season 1) and not enough Meadow.

Best part about the ending was the choice of music (using "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey was genius).
