Or, this is all just so much over-analyzing and it was an easy way to make Abraham tragic, and show why he has been so driven.

The Walking Dead Q&A

Nothing to analyze, he says it here.
Q: We get a peek into Abraham’s back story in Episode 505. Were you given a lot of information ahead of time or did you find out more about him as you went along?

A: When I was first hired, I asked Scott [Gimple] if there was a need for me to read the comic books, to which he responded, “Absolutely.” Abraham’s back story is very, very similar to what happens in the comics. It’s emotionally dead-on. There’s a lot of value in having the audience understand what pushes him forward.

The vast majority of viewers know nothing of the comic. And the show does a good deal of overlooking explanations in order to move the story. That's all I was saying. None of the expounding on motivations and emotional fragility is necessary, except as mental masturbation to little purpose. Abraham lost his family, he feels responsible, he tries to rectify that through Eugene. Simple.

Then what's the point of this thread if we can't discuss the show?

Don't take it so literally. :) Who said you can't talk about it? And who said I can't offer my 2 cents either? :)
It just seems that in this case, there was little intent to add depth to the history. It was just a means to an end.

not much point on posting here is there? :peace :lol

Bit of a difference between talking about the show, and having a long-winded psychological exploration of 2 minutes of simple expositional footage. :impatient: :horror

Sorry about the apple cart. I'll be sure to tread lightly in future postings. :)

I felt the last ep was kind of boring, other than learning more about Abraham and his past. Eugene's reveal really wasn't that shocking, and I've never read the comics. I kind of just assumed this whole time he's been faking and why it's taking so long for them reveal it. I'm more curious really with who Daryl had with him in the woods when he goes back to the Church and sees Michone. It has to be someone we've seen before, and we know it's not Beth or Carol. Curious.

I thought the whole Eugene storyline was pretty ridiculous. The idea that anyone, aside from Abraham who was clutching at straws to give his life meaning, would actually believe that this mulleted weirdo was going to save the world is more far fetched than the zombies themselves. To try and sell that as a shocking twist was hubris in the extreme.

I'm thinking it's either Morgan (a longshot for now) or Noah.

I don't know. A couple years into a zombie apocalypse and somebody steps up and says they can fix it.... I could see people falling for it.. heck people fall for even dumber stuff in cults right now.
