I think the idea with his fingers brushing teeth for a moment was just a shot at suspense. It pretty much qualified as the same kind of event as the tank situation. If the zombie bit, he'd be infected. It didn't. No flesh broken, no foul.

So what do the elites want. Kill Rick and Daryl and Michonne and Glenn. Then we can all agree it's high art and the show ends.

Some people just want to see the world burn

Nicotero said that they wrote off Tyreese because there was no where else to go with the character and his arc had come to an end.

That leaves me thinking, where else can they possibly take Daryl? Okay, he was the outside hick that was separated from his brother. Then we find that he isn't really a PoS and has a heart when he tries his damnedest to try and find Sophia. Then he becomes a valued member of the group and Rick's right hand man (his "brother"), then he's reunited with his brother, showing how much he's changed. We know about his background, his daddy issues, his past home life being raised by his older brother, etc. etc. We learned even more about the character in season 4 when it was just him and Beth. We as the audience know that he's not the piece of ****, racist red neck he was back in Season 1. The character has had a full arc.

He's outlived his usefulness as a character in the story. Where else can they go with him other than "surviving". His relationship with his brother and Beth have come to an end. When they were in the city, Daryl and Carol had their little back and forths about abuse and how this world has changed them. So, when is Daryl going to get his "radio" moment. When will a random event like a surprise walker or a stray buellet take him off the show?

btw I don't know how they can make walkers feel like a real danger again, I fear everytime a character gets killed by a walker its gonna look very stupid from now on... this is season 5 after all

I'm not hatin :monkey3 I'm just wondering :lol

I think most of the walkers would probably be a bag of hot goo by now. Unless all the events that have taken place over the whole series have taken place in a span of two weeks. Most walkers should be pretty much toothless by now and little to no muscle strength in their upper jaw. But, as with many zombie related plots, we have to suspend our disbelief and assume that zombie-fying turns your teeth and jaws into something akin to a great white shark.

Most zombie movies are way off anatomically speaking.

Game of Thrones works despite killing major characters. No-one that hadn't read the books would've expected some of the characters they've killed off to die. No reason WD's writing couldn't be just as good.

This is a nice post. You raise some good questions. I think Daryl has had a great character arc. Kirkman has said that both Daryl and Maggie will have dark reactions to Beth's death, so I would think that might be the next step in his character arc. It will be interesting to see where it leads. I would imagine he will withdraw from the group to some extent at least initially. There is still some unexplored territory to Daryl. OF course that doesn't mean he couldn't get killed at any moment either.

Tyreese on the tv show was a lot different from Tyreese in the comic. On the show, his "conscience" and innate goodness were liabilities. As a character, he refused to lose sight of that in this new world and it ended up being his downfall. He was horrified by Carol's killing of Lizzie. He understood it, but I don't think he would have ever been able to do something like that for his own or the greater good. He chose to let Martin go instead of killing him after he threatened Judith's life. Another time was how horrified he was when Rick, Michonne, Daryl and his own sister Sasha, slaughtered Gareth and his group. Another time, he was against Rick's plan to rescue Beth from the hospital. He proposed the exchange to avoid potential bloodshed. Lastly, was his horror in looking at the pictures of Noah's younger twin brothers and realizing that their innocence was consumed by this new world. To me, his story had come full circle and while I don't like to see any characters die on this show (except for a hand full of the "baddies" like the Governor and Gareth) I was ok with it. It will be interesting to see how Sasha handles losing both Bob and Tyreese in such a short amount of time.

In all fairness, Breaking Bad had a lot of the same formulas with having Walter and Jesse in some sort of inescapable peril. The difference was that Breaking Bad is much more of a character-driven show. In addition the premise was really unique.

I really don't know how a series about the apocalypse could be truly sustainable for multiple seasons. I think that's why TWD falls into the same trope after trope. There's not really much that can be done except: Zombies-Safety-Threat-Zombies-Seek safety elsewhere.

Could WD writing be better? Sure. One thing about the GoT comparison though, what we have seen on tv has been from the first three books in the series which are top notch. Books 4 and 5 are not as good, actually they are down right awful in some respects that I can't go into since it verges on spoiler territory. It will be interesting to see how the upcoming season of GoT compares to previous seasons since it will be heavily based on books 4 and 5.

Did Daryl actually stick his fingers inside the mouth? I thought he was feeling around the face and stuck his fingers inside the eye sockets.

I do wish that scene had someone else besides Daryl, the scene was very suspenseful but you knew Daryl was ok. If they had set it up with one of the others instead it would have worked better. (or save that walker for another scene) it would have been better.

He comes out of the closet? He just randomly shouts for no reason, "I'm here, I'm gay, and I'm fabulous, everybody!." That alone would get him an extra season.
