Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

But IMO they can develope the characters just fine while giving the viewers 1)something more stimulating to look at and 2)progressing the overall story past what is essentially a 2 week vacation in the country.

And how many comics do they release a year, 50?

The show can't afford to move the arc tha slow.

By the way, I'm "fine" with this season, just think it could have gone from a solid B+ to an A like the first season if the writers didn't stop to sniff every flower they passed.

Well, as you said, that's your opinion. I happen to think it's progressing just fine. I will say though, that if you hate this season with them being in one place for 4-5 episodes in a row, stop watching now. Season 3 will have you _____ing like a pregnant woman out of pickles.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Like I said, I'm "fine" with it. Like someone else said, not much is better right now on tv.

They better be careful though otherwise comparisons to Lost will begin.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yeah, not if the comparisons are justified and caused by the same reasons such as becoming a plotless circle of events that don't take the story anywhere.

Character developement isn't much without story developement also. And that doesn't mean "kill more zombies."

You can't hint at "you need to leave the farm" for 5 episodes and then not leave the farm, otherwise you get a Lost scenario.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

yikes thats a snails pace. are they bigger than normal comics?

Where do you expect them to go? The whole point is following along as these people further their journey of survival. I'm not saying they don't go from place to place, they do. But it's not about them getting from point A to point B. It's about what happens when the leave and arrive as well as what happens along the way. :huh

yikes thats a snails pace. are they bigger than normal comics?

Nope. In some cases, smaller because they pad them with a full comic that'll never take off if you flip it over.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm loving this season, I actually like it better than the first season. It just seems like that each week the pieces are coming together for what has got to be an epic meltdown.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Anybody have the graphic novels for this series. i'm thinking about picking a few up.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

If my group being forced to leave meant many in the group, if not all, wouldn't survive, then yes....the group occupies Herschel's farm if it gives the group a much better chance of survival.

I understand that they need and want to stay there, but I don't see how their need trumps Hershel's right. Why not just shoot him on the spot and take the farm for themselves?

Whats wrong with having the unseen action encompass a week or 2 and involve the VIEWERS in only the important elements of the story?

Have you watched any character drinking coffee on a porch, sleeping or taking a crap? What has transpired in any episode that was not essential to the progress of the story?

Like I said, why didn't the first season revolve around the gangster storyline for 5 or 6 weeks? How about the CDC for 6 weeks? How about the shopping mall for 6 weeks.

Because they were only involved with the gangsters to get Glenn back, the CDC was not a safe haven (they had to leave before they got flash fried), and if they found something as big as a mall (or bigger :monkey3) they would probably stay for months.

3 episodes would have been plenty to wrap this plot up and start something new.

First episode, they lose Sophia. Second episode, Carl is shot. Third episode, they get to the farm. In all, they've been at the farm for four episodes. How much of each episode was spent on the farm itself, and not in the woods looking for Sophia, or at a school getting the things Hershel needs to operate on Carl, or in a river bed waiting to see if Daryl survives, or going to town for the things Lori needs to deal with her pregnancy, or in a housing development, or in a swamp?

yikes thats a snails pace. are they bigger than normal comics?

All comics are released on a monthly basis.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

:) Nice. I'm hoping to get some soon.

Me too! I want to at least read the comic up to the point where the TV series is at now. Just to do a side-by-side comparison.

Speaking of that, there's a new book out now called "The Walking Dead Chronicles: The Official Companion Book". It shows some side-by-side comparisons of shots in the first season to their corresponding pictures in the comic. Here's the link to it over at www.amazon.com:

It sounds cool! I'd like to get one hopefully for Christmas!

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm not sure how much it helped. In the first place, they've been on the farm for five episodes, not four.

I forgot it's been seven weeks. :slap

Technically, Rick, Carl, Shane and Lori have been at the farm since ep 2 (Carl got shot at end of ep 1). Did Glenn and T Dawg get to the farm in ep2 or 3? The rest of them got there by ep 4.

However, I don't think these details matter to Prog. He wants to be visually stimulated by continual changes of scenery. He would be better off playing video games.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I forgot the first episode lasted so long.

But you're right that defending the length of time they spent there is not the way to go. The plot demanded the farm and the farm abetted the plot. It's integral to the events that just transpired, and it took exactly as long as it needed to get to where they are now.

:exactly:

We have also both pointed out that it makes sense (both logically and story wise) that they would STAY at a place they viewed as a safe haven with sources of food and water and protection. It would be ridiculous for any of them to say after a week or so, "I'm bored. Let's go out and explore this whole new world of zombies and kill as many as we can to liven things up a bit."

Now Shane's actions have probably set into motion events that will force them off the farm in search of a new safe haven and once they get there,
the prison

they will stay there for as long as it remains safe to them.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yes, I think he sealed their fate in that regard. That only question is how Shane will take the news.

Do you think...

...Shane will make it to the prison? I have a strong feeling that he will die the way he did in the comics, but I'm wondering if it will happen soon, or if they'll wait until the prison. There's also a third possibility, which is that the next six episodes will deal exclusively with Carl killing Shane, and the prison will be something the reach in the final moments of the last episode. Has it been confirmed that they get there this season?
