Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I don't know...

I don't see the point in making the series blow by as a matter of days when this is going to obviously be a long term struggle.

The comic is identical in that nature. Though it's been out for several years, the "story time" does not equal the time the book's been in print. I think the biggest misconception is that this isn't a story about zombies. It's a story about humans and how they deal with and adapt to living in a period where their normal way of life has been ruined forever and these zombies exist as a force of nature.

People keep bringing this up, but I think most folks do get the concept that the zombies are just the catalyst for the human drama. I don't think it's necessary to keep throwing that out out everytime someone thinks the plot is dragging a bit.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I can't stand all the negative talk this show is getting when its CLEARLY the best show on television NOT on AMC (Breaking Bad and Madmen are better IMHO).

What are people watching that's better?! Pffff. Not even HBO is close. Boardwalk Empire is on VALIUM compared to TWD. And showtime? Dexter's jumped
the shark so hard JAWS is on the deck of the LOVE BOAT. Don't even get me started on the networks... TERRA NOVA? Hahahahahhaa. Yeah.

Exactly and why make the leap to saying human struggles are all confined to the space of 2 week long drama. Real human struggle is a long drawn out process.

Apparently things have gone to hell.

It will always come up when people start _____ing and whining about how "slow" the show is playing out when they decide to focus on character development over zombies attacking. Again, this story is about the people, not about the zombies. There are whole issues of the comic where a single zombie might appear if any at all.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm not complaining about lack of zombie killing! I'm complaining about being stuck at 1 space for the span of 6 episodes, regardless of the timeline being over 2 weeks or 2 months.

If they can't move from the farm because the episodes are only 1 day long each...then that's the writers fault for making them that way. They could easily have incapsulated Carl's recovery, Herschel's family, the daughter likes Glenn, and finally the killing of the barnfolk and the missing girl in 2 or 3 episodes and then had the overall story move on.

They didn't hang out with the Mexican gangsters for 6 episodes.

Almost seems like they are doing this because the farm setting was affordable to shoot at.

Looks like we lost you again... Why would they want to move if they found a safe place??? The whole point of them leaving the hillside camp was to go to the CDC which is where they would have stayed indefinitely if it wasn't going to blow up in a couple hours. Then they find Herschel's farm by accident which is another safe haven. Why would they want to leave??? It makes no sense. Are you suggesting to dumb down the characters and their motivations and the overall writing of the series to satisfy a change of scenery?? Not a show I would want to watch if they insult the viewers intelligence like that.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I know one thing: I will never watch Doctor Who or Walking Dead with Prog. :lol

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I thought that this half of the season was great. The slow build-up of tension was awesome. I've read the comics and I was still on the edge of my seat waiting for the eventual money shot in the barn. I think the last episode was easily the best of the series so far. (How fitting, I just realized that I'm drinking a bottle of Zombie Dust by Three Floyds as I'm typing)

They haven't been at the farm for a couple of weeks. Likely barely even a full week. :cuckoo:

:lecture:rotfl:lecture:rotfl:lecture You'd spend a year just trying to break down the TARDIS. :lol

Are you being thick on purpose? These are CHARACTERS. They do what the writer writes into the script. Do you like watching the show turn into the Waltons? Is that what you want to watch is them sipping coffee on the porch swing saying "boy its grand here, I hope we never leave" just because thats what the characters would do? :lol

The writers don't need to show us 6 episodes worth of that. No show outside of 24 shows everything a character is doing 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Whats wrong with having the unseen action encompass a week or 2 and involve the VIEWERS in only the important elements of the story?

Just because real life versions of characters on the show would stay on the farm for 20 years if they could doesn't mean the viewers should be subjected to it...that's retarded.

Be it 2 days, a week, or a month, I didn't see the purpose in having AT LEAST HALF THE SEASON in one location. Who knows how many episodes into the next half season it will take to move on.

Like I said, why didn't the first season revolve around the gangster storyline for 5 or 6 weeks? How about the CDC for 6 weeks? How about the shopping mall for 6 weeks.

3 episodes would have been plenty to wrap this plot up and start something new.

Right back at ya!

Thanks for playing. Be sure to pick up your consolation prize at the door.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

You have to admit, "why would the characters want to leave the farm in 7 days" is a pretty silly excuse for them wasting all 6 episodes of the season to show us just those 7 days.

If you want 1 episode to equal 1 day, you are going to be waiting 30 years at 12 episodes a year to see just 1 year worth of their life...:lol How do you possibly cope with missing the other 23h15m of the day that they can't fit in the 45m show? :duh

This is a point that's been addressed by Kirkman. That's the way they want it. ATM, they're not into doing large time-lapse episodes. Again, these past several episodes have been focused on character development, which as I already mentioned, is not unlike the comic. :huh
