Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Not really. Especially when Rick's already said, "Death is still death." It would just mean that in order to stay dead, trauma has to happen to the noggin. It'd be a stress reliever, especially when encountering walkers. Besides, with a lack of proper hygienic means, and the sheer amount of walker blood splattered, someone would've turned by now. We've seen people wipe their brows after dispatching, burying, "double-tapping" walkers and the eyes are one of the most vulnerable means of contraction. It's not like these people are bathing after walker encounters and performing scrubdowns. :lol

So Rick was told something else then?:dunno

That's my hopes. :lol

The actors really did whisper dialogue during that scene but both have kept quiet about what it was. I just can't imagine this big secret that's been building an entire season to wind up being something completely uneventful, that we, as viewers, have already pieced together. There's just no surprise there. :huh

One of the other theories is that Jenner told Rick that Lori's pregnant and that the baby isn't his. If Rick admits this to Shane, this could be what's needed to make Shane finally crack.

Won't happen, but Imagine if he told them something like Daryl or Carl is immune? :lol

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Long story. :monkey1

It's already been speculated in the open forum, so it's not a "spoiler." Also, it'd make Rick a liar based on his statement to Shane at the Public Works. Honestly, I can't see Rick hiding a secret that big. It concerns the entire safety of the group and keeping it from them would hurt them more than not doing so. Plus, it's not significant enough to be a world-defining secret. Seems like something Rick would've shared right off the bat. "Don't worry about the walkers' blood, we're all already infected. It's just the bites you gotta worry about." It's got all the potential shock value of Clay Aiken coming out of the closet. :lol
Judging by Rick reaction when Shane mentioned that the two sheriff has no bite marks, it's obvious the secret that Rick has been keeping is that everyone is already infected.

I guess he didn't tell cause he wasn't sure and they have not actually
encounter a zombie that was not bitten. If Shane goes the way the spoilers are saying, then I guess will finally know for sure.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yea, it's pretty obvious at this point that that's the secret. And it is a huge mental shift - it's not about death, it's about the loss of control. Often if you ask people to imagine a fate worse than death, they will talk about no longer being able to take care of themselves either physically or mentally, being a burden on those around them, not having control. The _____ of getting old isn't dying - it's losing yourself over time. The thought that death isn't death, and that you could end up shambling around like that? Yea, that's a deal changer. It's not a tough problem to fix, but it's still one that they'll have to come to grips with.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yeah I think Jenner told them that they are all infected. The reason Rick hasn't said anything to anyone else is because he doesn't want to destroy their hopes that this zombie apocalypse might end at some point in time.

But dying is still the same. Unless bitten, they'd still die just like before the apocalypse. So I really don't see the big significance. The only difference between pre and post is that extra care needs to be taken with the body once death occurs. I just think that there has to be a more "shocking" aspect to what Jenner told Rick. That's not a big enough secret to not have told the group, and if that's it, that's pretty ____ing lame on Rick's part not to share it. Especially given it would've provided leverage against Hershall's stance on Walkers and his fantasy of a cure. :lol

I don't think anybody believes it will end. I think everybody in the group save Dale accepted the new world. Hell, even Hershall came around.

I agree that most of them have accepted this new world they live in, but I think they all still cling to hope that things will return to some semblence of normal at some point. For instance, will the walkers eventually "die" in the cold of winter? Will they "die" if they don't have a food supply? etc. If they knew that they had to tough it out for a finite period of time, that seems easier to accept then by saying that the Walkers will always be around as long as we are because we become them when we die. Seems a lot more hopeless to me knowing that no matter what you do, you, your loved ones, etc are going to become Walkers when you die.

That's what I always assumed the secret to be. It then becomes more a matter of Rick putting that out in the open and then seeing how the group changes because of it.

Maybe I'm just wired differently, because it wouldn't change my perception on life. Outside of getting bit by a walker, and adapting to the new world, the whole concept of "life" is still the same and hasn't changed. Neither has death. :huh

I hope your right and it's something different.

Anyway, even if they were all infected, why would it take them to die first before they changed. At the moment, if you get bit you just turn into a walker without dying or does the body die first because of the virus...confusing?

Currently I'm guessing the concentration of the virus/poison/bacteria in a bite is enough to kill, but in normal circumstances the body can fight off the virus until death. :huh

Currently, the bite kills you. Then you become a walker.

If that were the case, Rick would've woken up a Walker in the hospital, and Carl would've turned after getting shot and weakened with blood loss as both were close to death (weakened immune systems, etc.). My bets are on something dormant that needs the body dead before it can reanimate it.

In order to turn, you have to die from bite. Last season showed this. So far, Its obvious that the only way to trasmit it is through a direct bite. At the CDC last season, the scientist showed them evidence that the "zombification" doesnt occur until the brain turns off, then only the motor skill section of the brain somehow come back to life.

Good theory.

Was it ever revealed in the comics how the virus came to be or what caused the outbreak?

:lecture Once the body dies it takes over.
