The Gunmen cameo was not what I expected but a funny way to bring them back nonetheless.
CGB whipping Mulder was unexpected and funny too. Really impressed how they're packing in the traits of a 24 episode season into these 6, and the finale looks VERY intense and amazing, once again Mulder pointing a gun at CGB, I'm glad to see they'll come face to face, should be an awesome moment when he finds him alive yet again.

Honestly, if that's how it goes out and truly ends this time, I'd be fine with that. At least Carter went BIG with the end of the world and an implied alien invasion/coionization which was what was supposed to happen anyway. Great cliffhanger.

It almost feels appropriate for X-Files to end without closure, though I want it, and I agree, great end, better than Season 9 or I Want to Believe as endings.

So aliens kill the one girl because she alien DNA. show ends in the same manner in which they kill the girl. Which would imply they are going to kill Scully,Fox, and Miller.

I'm starting to wish these 6 episodes had all been about the Alien mythology rather than just the first and last with the Monster of the Week episodes in between. They felt unnecessary in the end. Just filler by comparison. Especially with ending on a HUGE cliff hanger. They had the episodes to end it!
I really hope they bring this back. My local comic con next month has Scully, Skinner, and Smoking Man appearing (waiting for the inevitable Mulder announcement at this point) and I can only assume the number 1 question they are all getting asked is: Is the X-files coming back?

With that ending, it pretty much confirms that Carter brought the show back with the intention of doing another season after this. I'm just disappointed we'll no doubt have to wait another year to see the resolution to that cliffhanger.
Oh, and I also was kinda bummed that Doggett didn't pop up in that Reyes flashback. Maybe next season.

I think lack of mention of Dogget may have been out respect to Patrick, Carter wanted him in it but his Scorpion work caused conflicts.
I'm so glad CGB was back, he's just so good at being the master evil, it's a shame he was left out of season 8 and 9, surely Carter knew he'd be back.

I was wondering how they'd explain Smokey surviving that rocket explosion to the face...turns out it twas but a scratch. Facial reconstructive surgery is like a goldmine for writers of TV and film. Here I was thinking they'd explain it using some alien regenerative process or something

There may still be some alien secret to him, think how often he's been near death and still he lives.
The only thing that confuses me, is if alien DNA in ours saves you from the attack, doesn't Mulder have some, isn't that why he had strange brain activity that led to his abduction and then his abduction itself.

Mulder's weird brain activity and mind-reading abilities were caused by the black oil that infected him. I'm pretty sure the oil doesn't alter the DNA of the host, it can just either control the body or use it to gestate a new grey.
So yeah, Scully (and the 'chosen ones') must have undergone another procedure to alter their DNA.
