When Hamburger Hill, Full Metal Jacket and Platoon came out they were neatly appropriated into an anti-Asian vibe prevalent in 80s Australia. It's hard for me to enjoy those movies, ''cause they gave my white classmates a whole new lexicon with which to insult me and people who looked like me.

I prefer WW1 and 2 movies :lol

That's unfortunate. It's easily the best of the three. It also gives a lot of attention to race conflict in the U.S. during that era.

People are retards. I take it that China Beach and Tour of Duty were similarly tainted?

To be honest, it's time I moved on and gave it another go. I've rewatched Platoon and FMJ a couple of times - mainly because they get rolled out on free-to-air every now and again - but I've never really thought they were especially great films. I've never been a huge fan of either Kubrick or Stone though.

Tour of Duty was ok as far as I remember, but I'd forgotten about until you mentioned it. And China Beach I never saw.

I guess the Vietnam war was such a messy, political war in a lot of ways... I like the simplicity of conventional warfare, it translates nicely into film.

I had a few run-ins with skinheads back in the day. I went to see Romper Stomper with a mate a while back. He walked out saying what a great movie it was, and it was a good movie.. but just a bit too close to home for me :lol

Yeah, not a fan of those guys either. I forgot how prevalent they were down there.

Vietnam was filthy. The fact that we can still smell it is testament to just how bad.

Trying to go cold-turkey on drinking coke. The withdrawal headaches are wasting no time.

Unfortunately I just don't think there's any way for me to do this gradually. If I drink any at all I inevitably end up refilling the glass.

Although I might allow myself one at the cinema tonight......what...I can't refill that. :monkey3

I've never heard of that sort of coke problem. I used to drink it all the time as a kid but now I enjoy one once in a while as a treat. Good luck!

I live on it. My metabolism has handled it remarkably well all these years, it's only in the last few that I've started to develop fat in the middle. I would like to curtail that however.

Oh that's so hard! I gave up soda almost 5 years ago but it was Diet Coke. I was drinking at least a 2 liter a day, it was so bad. I haven't had any since then but it was impossible at the beginning with the caffeine headaches

I was doing the same thing with diet coke. I only drink it now if I'm eating out. At home I switched to seltzer with flavor enhancer, like MiO. I wanted to rid myself of aspartame, though I never noticed a difference in not having it anymore.

I never cared for sugared pop. Too sweet.
