Remind me, what did I do against you here?

Sorry, I thought you were crows. Dude's the quintessential basement dweller of SSF.

LOL it's alright. :duff

But in all seriousness, I don't really understand why the whole "basement dweller" thing is used as an insult on like, almost ALL message boards. Plenty of us collectors keep things in our basements - sometimes for better preservation, other times just 'cause we don't have the space. Where I live there is no real basement - just foundation/dirt. But if I had a real luxury basement, no doubt most of my collectibles would go there. :lol

It's not just for collectibles. It's a retreat. Your own space in a house where you dont have to use a coaster. You can spill something and it's not a big deal.

Other set of rules in the basement.

Well, in all fairness, I just use it for crows. Because... why not use it for crows? :rotfl

There are some pretty awesome basements, though. Check out Michael Crawford's (I forgot the thread where he posted pics). He converted his entire basement into a bar, and collectibles display place.

I hate "Man Caves." Or maybe just the term. I can't understand why a man has go away to be himself in his own ****ing house. It's one thing to have a collectibles room/finished basement whatever, but if you're wife or whatever can't tolerate whatever you're into and forces you to do guy stuff in one set room, you're pathetic.

I can't stand wives (or any people for that matter) with that kind of personality - hence why I'm not interested in marriage or living with anyone else.

It's not an issue of being forced into a space to do something. If you have the space you'll *want* your own area to do your displaying or workshop stuff or whatever. It's just easier. And You dont want an ironman collection in the living room where it can get mishandled, or some accessory goes missing, guests touching stuff.

And i'll wager most women dont want it there either.

:lecture

Some guys are just pushovers.

But, what you're describing isn't a "man cave", it's more of a collection room. Man caves are specifically utilized for men to get away from their wives/girlfriends, to be by themselves, or to enjoy some time with fellow compatriots who've also been whipped into submission by their wives/girlfriends.

My point exactly.

My bedroom has always been for my stuff, and now living with my girl for 8 years now, she's had to live in it too. She has no issue with it whatsoever aside from it takes up a lot of room. She's got her own cabinet of collectibles now too. It's a shared hobby, but mine is more extreme.

I don't need to get away from my wife, were attached at the hip when were home. We may not be doing the same thing at the same time, like TV or games, but were always sharing a space.

It reminds me that one of her coworkers is constantly fighting with her husband and how he sleeps on the couch. I can't imagine being in a relationship like that. Get the **** out of it.

Man caves are for ****, jerking it and farting without the wife getting annoyed.
Or for watching offensive gory or nudie action movies.

Man caves are for guys with controlling or easily annoyed wives

I dont think man-cave and collection room are mutually exclusive.

What if you put a tv in your collection room? Or a stereo? Does it then become a mancave? The collection is still on display, but you can watch tv too. What does it take for one to become the other?

Lots of guys have collection rooms, but don't use them to escape from their significant others. Their wives/girlfriends might also hang out with them there. That's the difference between a collection room and a man cave (they're different in the ways that they're utilized).

Again, correct. One is for your hobby, or hanging out like a den or finished basement filled with trophies/collectibles/TV. The other is the part of the house that you need to get away from your significant other that they allowed you to have. You were assigned a space because you're a fairy.

That reminds me, I haven't met a single woman who has shared my interests or hobbies (as far as collecting and video games go) :lol. Maybe I just need to get out of NYC...

:lol :lol :lol

Assigned a space... it's like being treated like a little kid all over again.

While my wife isn't crazy about collecting since she's in a holding pattern with it, only getting specific unique figures... she understands my collecting. She doesn't care about them mostly, although some stuff she's a fan of. Like my Robocop HT figures since she's a big fan of the film.

She's more into horror figures than anything else. I may end up getting her the Sideshow Freddy later in the year as a Christmas present.
