Sure you can "choose", but your every activity is recorded by your devices (even physical activity), all your online profiles (professional ones included), your searches indexed and filed, not to mention news outlets/sources alternate to mainstream media are promoted or censored based on political alignment, among other things.

Also, in the near future you will go to jail for mis-gendering someone, I know that's already the case on some places in Canada, but don't quote me on that.

Not arguing there. But, when you think about it, the devices that we carry aren't necessities in any way. I mean, you can get a flip phone, or something really cheap that doesn't have GPS. That'll at least stop Facebook, and the other sites from tracking you. I don't worry too much about my privacy, because my life isn't really that exciting (at least for now) :lol. But, I do sometimes wonder why I even carry around an iPhone, because I only use it to make calls and text.

Canada's always been a strange place, and I actually don't doubt something like that at all.

I don't know about the US, but in Mexico, older phones are no longer supported, and I'm guessing the situation is similar in other non-1st world countries. And all the new phones come with google OS, even iPhone comes with many of the same protocols which Google later adopted.

Sure you can stop using all that, but what's left? There are still social constraints, and even more important, work/livelihood constraints.

I also don't worry about my privacy, I'm sure there's plenty people with worse search patterns than mines :lol but, I feel the trap is pretty well set now.

Not really. You can choose not to use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or any of the social media sites. How you use the Internet is up to you. 1984 would only be here if the Federal government became fully authoritative, limited freedom of speech, and punished what it deemed as unacceptable speech through harsh sedition laws. Think of the Soviet Union, for example.

But, to your point, bots are doing a lot of things now. I also think most Amazon bans are done solely by bots. That's why there's no chance of appealing them.

Some companies wont hire u if u dont have facebook

I think that trend never caught on, I remember reading about it back then, but I have yet to hear a testimony of someone who got filtered out because of that, at least in my line of work.

Companies are still interested in LinkedIn and GitHub/Bitbucket though.

I assumed you meant the ad at the beginning of a video and then the ads that pop up randomly in the middle of videos that kill the flow of what you're watching
I use adblock 99% of the time. :wink1:

Google, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook have aligned to shut down diversity of views.
That's just child's play in comparison to what US' politics are doin' to the rest of the world tho.

What a sad time to be alive.

It's getting quite tiresome of Hollywood thinking they know what's good for everybody.

Add in every Marvel Comic employee.

Not one of them can tell you why he's so bad. Everything is an overreaching generality. He hates xyz, abc doesn't have right, etc only none of these are true

I don't think you can buy a phone without GPS now.

I do not have Facebook, if someone asked for my account on a job interview, I would tell then no anyway.

Its not a requirement of any job to scan your social activities. My suggestion is not to work do a company that asks this, and call their HR either way and tell them so.....

The only way this sort of stuff ends is when everyone stops bending over for a few bucks.

I haven't been asked for my FB, not once in an IT related line of work.

And I haven't heard myself about abut anyone that has.

There's plenty ways a company can do a background check, they don't need to ask for your fb.

Read that China require people to register, to post on media....no anonymous poster. Not totally sure if accurate but oh well.

its not that they wont hire you on purpose, they will just hire someone else, there were some cases where they even asked people for their facebook passwords

well, it obviously might be different deep south

If a job asked for my Facebook and password that would probably be a good indication that I would be miserable there and I would gratefully back out of the building as quickly as possible.

Yeah but China is like Nazi or something.

Oh, but US is somewhat like crazy in all short of ways anyway.

This guy has dawls, cars and his wife posts cats on his wall. Do not hire him.

Mr. Green don't do FB and Tweeters but hell, he wouldn't want to use this forum while working. One ****** bag of a network guy is more than enough, from last job.

Exactly.....
Sounds a bit like exaggerated stories.....

But the internet says so, it must be fact
