There are not only " Russian-backed separatist scum". There also russian special forces, russian mercenaries, russian weapon, russian military technique. I recently returned from there.

No doubt. There is a conflict fatigue in the West, particularly the impotent Europeans who expect the US to do the heavy lifting every time there's a flashpoint. And the Russians are happy to exploit it.
I just wanted to get it off my chest because I've long loathed the Soviets and the MH17 tragedy has hit close to home. But this thread isn't the place for extended discussion on the topic. Commiserations to the Ukranians - I hope something positive comes out of this.

I think I've said this before that if I had the power, we wouldn't be backing anyone in the region but would leave them all the hell alone to live or die on their own. Sick of the whole mess that will never be solved. Any company or US citizen would be on their own there and we'd be gone.

I do dislike the Russians (as rep'd by Putin and his ilk). I remember in my history class, back in high school, my teacher indicated the West should've obliterated them along w/Japan and Germany, when we had the chance during WWII. All these years later I'd have to agree.
I'd be fine with that. Make it a no-man's land and leave it to the contractors.

I was thinking a similar thing last night. I never usually watch the news, (im depressed enough) but have been wanting updates on this flight thing and after seeing the news recently I just thought to myself that WWIII has begun.
Maybe it hasnt but Its all scary stuff, that's for sure.
ah well, ill go back to watching discovery channel again, much more interesting than depressing.
