And they had a studio bassist on L.A Woman (Jerry Scheff).

He was also wrong that Waiting for the Sun is the place to start. 1967 or GTFO.

They also had Lonnie Mack and one other bass player on Morrison Hotel. During Roadhouse Blues (one of the greatest songs ever) you can hear Morrison saying "do it Lonnie do it".
 
That's why cd's sucked when they first came out. Liner notes were scarce. I always thought he was talking to Robbie.

I also suspected Summer's Almost Gone had an upright bass track. I wonder...

I dunno. I prefer the blusey Doors to the poppy Doors myself.
