Re: Things That Are Scary

The shadows yeah
But the faces are harder to explain

No, not just shadows in the environment. I was referring to the process of creating a photograph, ie the interaction of light with light-sensitive crystals to produce a latent image in the emulsion that is then chemically developed into a photograph. This process can return lots of interesting effects.

Don't fill in the gaps in your knowledge with magic. Humanity should move beyond that. Do your bit.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I'm definitely open to explanations like that, the extra dimensions are probably the explanation for a lot of paranormal phenomena. And I'm not opposed to that.

But I think there I definitely more to reality. Paranormal stuff might have a scientific explanation like extra dimensions, merging with ours.

...or it could be that our senses are not as accurate as our brain tries to convince us they are :dunno

Possibly. Maybe subatomic studies can take us closer to understanding some things. Until then, you'll either have to be a skeptic, or keep an open mind - especially if you've seen or experienced things yourself (or with others) that can't be debunked.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I saw ghosts when I was 16. In a group of 12 people, 4 of us saw exactly the same thing while 8 saw nothing.

Occam's razor.

Human senses and perception are fallible. Our recollection even more so.

...or it could have been that I was seeing the energy signatures of dead people.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I'd tell you the ghost story I experienced first hand but I am too lazy to type that much out...

Senses and perception are definitely misleading on many occasions. On the other hand, you have to trust your senses in order to interact and understand the world around you. But, it's choosing whether to trust in your senses or not, at a given circumstance, that can be a real dilemma :lol.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I think there's a ghost thread somewhere if you want to read that, crows.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I was just watching a Vsauce video talking about how humans recognize patterns that don't exist even if we know they aren't real like seeing a face in things that are inanimate like this pic

I think that plus some stretching of the truth and a little bit hyper action explains every ghost sighting in history.

Re: Things That Are Scary

I find the ocean terrifying because of all the creatures that live in it. I love being in the water if I have goggles and the water is clear, but otherwise count me out. You couldn't have paid me to be on the set of Jaws.
