It was bizarre. I try to avoid argument and confrontation as much as possible, even more so in real life. In real life I'd apologise to someone if my face got in the way of their fist. I'm far more likely to put myself down than anyone else....and yet apparently, I have the balls to accuse a regular customer of theft or attempted theft, by making an idle comment about the thickness of the Telegraph on a Saturday. It seems that because I've made that comment before (maybe I did, beside the point, it was idle chat then just as it was today) it means I'm suggesting that he's hiding an extra newspaper inside it.
Perhaps if I was new on the staff I could kinda maybe see how what I said could be taken that way. A new guy wouldn't know the regulars and might be 'watching' everyone. But I've been serving this guy for years and now suddenly he thinks I'm suspicious of him and am making an insinuation. WTF. Y'know what, now I'm suspicious. He doth protest too much, why so defensive?
Anyway, when I realised he wasn't joking and I was being ''counter''-accused of something I tried to clarify the situation but he wasn't interested. Stormed off, pretty sure I heard him telling me to go **** myself.

I see it spelt, DEFINATLEY too, because in a lot of places, it's pronounced that way.
I used the word spelt instead of spelled. There quite a few people who correct me on this. And I'm not wrong.
