At these point, I'm not only talking for you, but for me too, this hobby has become an addiction, I keep telling myself "one more figure and I will stop buying more" but I can't stop buying more figures, I even gotten to the point that I stole money from my parents to buy more figures, I trying to find in myself to stop but I can't, like you also you said you buy one figure and then you buy another from that same franchise to complete the set, it very hard to stop and I don't think I will :monkey2

They're just toys. Cool little trinkets that sit on a shelf. You need to stop cold until you can pay for them in cash. If you can't afford them, let it go. They don't really make your life any better ... don't waste money on expensive toys if you don't have the money to waste.

Good opportunity to learn something -- self-discipline will serve you much better in life than a shelf full of stolen action figures. You'll enjoy them more when you've earned them anyway. Who'd want a shelf full of expensive toys that made you feel like a pathetic theiving ass-clown everytime you look at them?

Cut up the credit cards (if you have any) and confess to your parents. If they're worth their salt, they'll lock you down pretty hardcore ... and they'll never leave another dollar unattended. Lack of funds should shut you down. Don't get yourself in long-term trouble for toys.

Be a man.

I beat Transformers collecting and I know I could give this up...if I wanted to. But I don't, and I haven't brought a penny of debt into my home because of it. I actually sold of the Transformers and paid off debt. THAT felt good.

Forget him. He's either making up the stealing part or just a sad crap. If I have to go cold turkey, I'll go cold turkey. Big deal. I was ghetto poor before. Eat freakin grass, dammit.

hey _______, i'm not making this up, sad really? I have a problem I know that, by you insulting me won't make it any better, you just punk who thinks your better than everyone else, go f yourself.

Come on. I wouldn't complain about the insults. You earned it. It is "sad crap". You steal money to buy toys. You're a criminal ... for action figures. That kind of crap deserves to be insulted.

Everybody has their temptations -- but you need to grow up. It'd be a shame to go to prison for something so stupid. You need to sell everything you stole to buy, confess to your parents, reimburse every nickel you stole (and any profit you make) ... and you should hope they give you a swift kick in the ass. You need it.

I only buy figures im 100% keen on.. I don't have a set line I follow .. I just buy pieces I think are real art. not every piece released is so utterly outstanding i cant live without it.

I remain in the hobby and sure I will for a long time to come following this, its not hugely expensive this way.

yeah, jessica rabbit pf is on order, cant live without it. :yess:

So what's your first step? Mine would be selling a figure or two to recoup what you owe your parents, come clean with them and then reassess your collecting habits so that you have a hobby and not an addiction.

Just to point out the obvious, but this (^^^^^^^^) is great advice.

Now that my focus has turned to customs I have well and truly cut down to afford the expensive customs out there. I don't want a enormous collection like some people here have, I just want a modest collection of favourite film characters.

why would anyone even bother entertaining this guy ? :slap

please dont quit the hobby because you lose a pinch of your soul if you do. if its money thats grinding you its okay to be in debt, its the american way.

No, no, NO! It's not OK to be in debt! And please don't preach that to someone else! If you choose to be in debt, that's your business. But being indebted is not a good thing, by any measure. If the hobby is putting you in debt, then by all means quit if you can't control yourself!

If you can't prioritize, then you will always be stuck with having to get everything. It's either/or. There is no grey area.

Agreed. I limit myself to Star Trek TOS stuff, for the most part. That's what I'm most passionate about. (And Robocop!) I also like some 1/18 scale diecast American cars mostly from the 60s-70s and certain police cars. That's pretty much it. I can't allow myself to expand to superheroes or Star Wars—there's way too much crap out there, and there's no end to it... literally. Who's really got the space for all those giant boxes and figures?! Unless you live by yourself and own a big house that you can fill with nothing but glass cases and or shelves upon shelves of statues and figures to the point where you can't see any one figure any more because there are so many clumped together! Not to mention the $$$, of course.

I say he just needs to find a big score, one last heist that can fund his collecting needs for life, then retire from crime.

You all want to know the single best thing I've ever heard anyone say regarding this subject? It's a phrase that hit me close to home and one that I've remembered practically every day since...

"I don't need to own it in order to appreciate it."

Think about that for a minute. Just because you like something, just because you admire it's craftsmanship and/or appreciate the artistry of the sculpt, tailoring, whatever...that doesn't mean you have to own it. You can still enjoy it without investing your time, money and space in the physical object.

Let's face it, we're all nerds here. I know, I know, some of you are badass and athletic and wealthy and spend your nights banging super hot girls, we get it...but if you're doing all of that and still hanging around here? You're a huge dork. Deal with it. Frustratingly, there's an odd sentiment in the nerd community that says you have to own something related a certain property in order to be considered a true fan of it. As if the nerd who foolishly stockpiles tons of Hasbro Star Wars crap somehow has more credibility than the one who buys only what he or she truly enjoys and sees real (relative) value in. It's madness. Personally, I don't care if a person owns 1 figure or 1000. They still have eyes, they've seen the same high-resolution photos and ridiculous video reviews we all have; Their opinion is still valid and their fandom is still strong, why do we pretend otherwise?

I'll tell you why, it's to justify our own unnecessary spending. "I know I've spent a lot of money this year, but I'm a REAL collector." Please. It's nonsense. No one cares, no one is going to give you a medal and no matter what you may have read, "he who dies with the most toys" doesn't win a damn thing...he mainly just leaves behind a giant pile of plastic $#!t for his loved ones to deal with.

Nope. I most certainly don't need to own something in order to appreciate it and that little mantra has saved me literally thousands of dollars throughout the years. I can only imagine how much more it will save me as I continue collecting - and make no mistake, I will continue to collect - only what's really "important" to me.

Sometimes I just enjoy these collection from the LCS. Happen that most of it are not my type but some are awesome.....until someone bought it and I don't see it anymore. :(

Oh well, there's always zombie apocalypse where I can loot what ever I want. :pfft:

I think thats happening with quite a few HT customers, they don't have to own it, but to appreciate it they want it in-hand, so they order it and appreciated in-hand for a short while but since they don't want to own it they sell it off.
