Has anyone here had this experience...

I figured this was just a mood i was in last night, but it carried over to today.

For some reason i looked around my room and felt that i just had too much collectibles and they all just weren't worth it, space has been a concern before but never a 'need to stop' concern more of a 'i need a new cabinet concern' and i never felt like they weren't worth it.

Nothing has changed but i just feel like something has

Anyone else get that feeling before?

Yeah and it scares me sometimes. I have tried collecting other things before (Marvel Legends, for example) and looking back on it, it all seems like such a waste of money and effort. I am afraid I might look at this hobby the same way sometimes. If I wasn't spending so much, maybe it would be different but it's hard to justify buying some of this stuff when I can go away to a nice tropical country for a few days on the price of 2 action figures! I have even been passing on more things than I thought I would and I'm on the fence with quite a bit. I said it before that I'll probably just get some more Marvel stuff, some of the 1/4 Terminators and perhaps 2 Batman figures and the Tumbler and call it a day... come back when the Back to the Future stuff gets released and then out again. Sigh, not sure what the future holds right now.

Glad to see i'm not alone. :1-1:

I'm gonna give it a few days, if i still feel this way i think i'll change up my displays, give it a new look, spice things up a bit. Might sell off a few of the ones that don't sparkle as much as before.

For example, i've got both the HT Iron Man MK IV & VI and feel like i only need one, same with Joker.

I haven't got too much on order but i think i'll try and be a bit more selective in future

Sometimes. It doesn't last. You'll very soon crave something new and you're right back in it without ever having even been gone.

This is 100% correct (in most cases) I'd be a fool to think otherwise tbh. I just can't fathom the steady increase in prices is all.

Thats it man. I find myself looking at other peoples collections who have taken a less is more approach and these days I'm thinking thats the way to go. Mind you my Terminator collection is anything but 'less is more' but everything outside of that I'm cutting back on and becoming more selective.

and thats another reason to cut back. One does wonder how far can these companies take the pricing before it really seriously starts to take the piss...if it isn't already.

The increases have caused me to take a step back and look at what I really want to have and what I really don't need. It's sort of a good thing because I no longer feel an urge to buy stuff like Kevin Flynn, Sweeney Todd, and Jake Sully.

However, if they mass produce everything at these ever increasing rates and value keeps going down, people will eventually stop buying and hyping these up. More and more will go through what Voorhees is talking about and they'll lose interest.

I would like to refocus my collection and shrink it down to a more quality then quantity type thing.

Prices, license selection and the Hasbro approach is getting to me.

I still wish to keep at my customs though. I enjoy the process of making the figure and I enjoy it more knowing how much hard work I personally have put into it.

I think lots of folks here have had moments where you have to decide what may have to come and go within a collection. I think that's part of what you're dealing with here another is to be honest I've seen you get worked up over things here which I'm sure drains the fun out of things. Think about how many posts you've made complaining they're making another Iron Man or something similar. If I did that quite a bit it would take the fun out of it for me. Just enjoy what you do enjoy and let the rest slide off your back.

Oh no, what if I suddenly decide collecting toys isn't worth the money!

First world problems are awesome :D

I've been feeling like that for a couple of months and it's not going away. I started by cancelling the Thor and Dutch PF's and have no regrets. I sold a bunch of stuff this past year, and have no regret. I walk into my room and see all the stuff and think "Ya it's cool, but is it worth all that money i spent". Could of done so much more with it.

I can't justify it anymore either, especially the very expensive pieces. With all the money I spent, I could of finished the theater I've been building, but keep putting on the backburner. The only 2 I have on order are the Joker EX and Freddy. I can't cancel Freddy because it's on Flex and I'll lose too much money (few payments done) and shouldn't cancel Joker for obvious reasons. I don't know, I'm just confused with this hobby now :lol

I'm a collector who has limited his style, but just sticking to 1/4 scale statues, PF's, or maquettes.
I tend to get things I really really like or grew up with, or are very iconic.
I don't NEED everything. Even if it is cool.

I have never sold anything in my collection, nor will I ever. What I have is ME, and shows what I like or grew up with.
And I only need that one or two pieces for a movie or franchise, or character to represent it.

I'm someone who feels with a few more pieces, my collection is actually DONE. It will actually have an END to it and I'll be happy lol

I've got Neytiri Maquette coming, which will be the one and only peice I need to represent Avatar, including the sequels.
And once I get the Droids from Star Wars, that's it for me for that franchise.

Pretty much all my other things are covered.
NEW stuff and new characters and new franchises are cool but they won't have that effect on me, if I didn't grow up with it.

I will make possible exceptions though.
You never know.

I made it top priority to finish my basement when I had the chance. I'd recommend finishing that room, there is nothing more rewarding imo. As for flex pay, what a genius move on Sideshows part. It's almost like a forced budgeting strategy for the irresponsible collector :D

I literally have nothing on preorder at the moment :wink1:

Well the basement (theater) is almost done, but there's still the ceiling and a few other things to do. You can see it at the end of my video in my sig. Most people would be happy with what I have already done but....ya SS got me by the balls with that Flex on Freddy. Oh well, I'll finish it up and then we'll see.

well, i got the feeling when i got a second hot toys chris reeves superman, just lost something right there when i opened it up, skipping the avengers line excpet mayb iron man ,
will get the terminator, predators , dark knight, probably skip everything else except if they come with some cool vehicles or anything else,

Video won't work for me :(

Ah yes, now I remember your video, VERY nice! :clap The theatre room is the perfect size too. Imo a ceiling isn't that big a deal, its really a non factor at the moment. Very nice dude. :wink1:

Easy for you to say but it's been like that for 2 years and it's starting to drive me nuts :lol ...thanks man.

I was just talking to my GF last night about this very subject. I have lost that buzz that comes with collecting when you get a new piece in and open it up. I have re-arranged my room about 3 times to see if displaying it differently helps but it doesn't.

The fact that nothing really good has been released for a while and also the prices have gone up so much and the quality has gone down. Maybe its time to find a new hobby, when I think of the things I could have bought with the amount of money I have spent on this hobby.
