I have often considered just stopping the collection where I am at, sometimes you can look at what you spend and realize, wow, that money could have been used on trips, things that are much more usefull, the statues are awesome, yes, but more often than not, way overpriced, and in the end, you have far to many, then you are in a position to try and sell, i know a few collectors that have lost a relationship over the priority of spending on statues unstead of family.

Only thing is, I can sell most of the statues I've got for more than I paid for them. I've been on plenty of trips. Once the trip is done, The money is spent. Can't sell back memories or photographs. :)

But then again, it is pretty amazing how much stuff you can buy at Home Depot for the amount of money these statues cost. :lol

I really do enjoy this hobby. I might sell some stuff to consolidate and focus, but I don't think I'll ever be totally done with it. Too much fun.

It's ART. Like anything else. Either you enjoy it or you don't. Either you have the money for some fancy paintings, or whatever else you want to collect or decorate in your home, or you don't.

But I find, if you keep your collection smaller and focused it's easier to appreciate it. When you start to run out of room, or clutter or have 4 different scale representations or have 7 versions of the same character, it gets old, cluttered, and just looks like "stuff" taking up space.

Keep it smaller and simple, display it nicey in an office, and you will enjoy looking at the reminders around you of what cool sculpting can look like, and the things or movies that you love and memories of your younger days.

ie My collection focuses mainly on 1/4 scale statues.
They are mostly properties I grew up with or enjoy. And I have a little bit from each for representation. But I have no need to complete any series.

For me it's:
Predator
Alien
Terminator
Avatar
LOTR
Star Wars
Disney

That's the bulk of my collection. Do I need 20 predator variations? NO. I have ONE. Predator Maquette. Done.
Do I need 10 Terminator variations? NO. I have the only 3 I will ever need to represent this franchise for me: T800 Arnold PF, T800 Endoskeleton PF, and Life Size Endo Skull. DONE.

Stuff like that. That's how I do it and think about it anyway.

Excellent! I agree 100%. As such, you are in control. Your hobby does not control you! Conversely, when you allow something like obsessive collecting to control you to such a degree that causes financial and or psychological harm to you or your loved ones and you are unwilling to stop, make no mistake: it has become an addiction. And I love the ol' familiar rationalization of, "but I can sell everything at anytime and get all my money back!" And where do you think all that money that you just made from "selling all your wares"—and is burning a hole in your pocket—is going to go? :rotfl

quitting this hobby is easy................i've done it like a thousand times already.............:pfft:

I only just got in to this hobby and already have a couple of pieces on flex pay. My Goal is to get about 10 high quality pieces and no more, if something better comes along I will sell an old piece but won't add more than 10. While they look cool I prefer the minimalist approach and think 10 really nice pieces are better than hundreds of pieces that fill and clog the whole house, you get to the point where you don't know where to look there is too much stuff and clutter.

IMO there is a place for this stuff and it is in my Home Office and Theatre room, I don't want whole house clogged up with stuff and family and friends coming over thinking I'm the 40 year old virgin. No offence to anyone who has lots of statues/figures.:lol

Don't tell me you became an alcoholic just to lose. :nono

You're still a contender. Don't let Star Trek geeks lead you astray.

hell no.............i became an alkyhaulick cuz it's fun.............:banana

star track? what is this star track you speak of?

It was a celebrity drag racing show with lots of polyester. I'm not surprised you've never heard of it. Unless you were into the late night television cocaine disco scene, there's no reason why you should have.
