In a somewhat surprising turn, Disney’s Thor: The Dark World earned $86.11 million over its first weekend. I say surprising because of how comparatively not front loaded it turned out to be. Thor: The Dark World earned 8% of its weekend figure from Thursday grosses, which is far less than Iron Man 3 ($15.6m/$174m) and identical to The Avengers, which scored both of which scored 9% of its weekend figure via Thursday midnight grosses ($18.75m/$207m). It also set an opening weekend record of sorts for Marvel, pulling in the least front-loaded Friday-Sunday debut weekend of any of their films, for a franchise-high 2.7x weekend multiplier.

Every single Marvel Studios movie has pulled just over/under 2.5x for the weekend, with the vast majority hitting right around 2.5x. So the fact that Thor: The Dark World pulled off a 2.73x weekend multiplier is noteworthy as its the largest weekend multiplier out of eight Marvel films, besting Iron Man‘s 2.6x multiplier ($38m/$102m). Despite being easily the most fantastical and sci-fi of the Marvel films thus far, it played like a mainstream action picture. Now one can chalk this stronger-than-expected performance due to the to the non-summer release date, Monday being Veteran’s Day (IE – Sunday now acts like a second Saturday for much of the country), as well as the fact that Thor is arguably the most kid-friendly of the ongoing franchises.

Movie was very reminiscent of LOTR, especially the prologue and the Kursed creature.....

Still very enjoyable, not as much as the first one though. Loved the bit about captain America and Loki scenes.

I hadn't checked numbers yet, nice to see it pulling in some numbers. I always go in the day to avoid crowds and I knew when I was shoulder to shoulder in the matinee that this was going to be a good weekend for Thor. :clap:clap:clap

If iStark3 was awfully pretentious, Twhore The Duck Word was hilariously retarded.
Scripted, filmed and edited by complete jackass.

Loki is the only thing I liked about this unpleasant mess.

Every time Kat Dennings was on sceen I begged my friends to shot me out of pity.
This is FRED level of pointless yet incredibly annoying!

Wish that mid-credit scene was 1.5 hours long while the actual "movie"... about 2 min of pain instead.

Sucks for you....

While the human characters were kind of annoying this go around, and the plot pretty cliche, I was entertained. The action and Loki were worth my money. Went with several friends and we had fun. That's what it's all about.

And the mid-credit scene looked so silly and low-budget I was waiting for Willy Wonka to walk out.

That's a good weekend for Thor. I was hoping for 90-100 million but this is solid. I do hope this movie hits 1 billion dollars.

Who said it wasn't fun? It was mindblowing entertainment!
I just used to be amused by the quality of a film and not by jokes I can make out loud while watching it.

I'd rather substitute a 5/6 drill bit for a cotton swab than read your posts.

He's the collector. From what I understand he will be one of the bad guys in Guardians of the Galaxy. He will be Thanos side kick type collecting the stones for the Infinity Gauntlet.

Spoilers...

I was thinking having Loki on the throne of asgard could explain how Thanos will obtain the tesseract and the infinity gauntlet, Loki will barter for his life with what Thanos' wants in return for Thanos allowing Loki to live and rule asgard.
