He's not wrong this really is an awesome film. :rock

Stating the obvious: it really is amazing what good critical and fan buzz can do for a movie.

This movie had "I'll watch it at home" written all over it for me, but with the reception it's getting, it might warrant a theater upgrade.

So I am hearing mixed reviews on the 3D. Anyone see it in 3D that was sitting more to the back of the theatre? How was it?

I found the 3D to be quite good tbh. It didn't blow me away like Avatar did back then, but it also didn't suck like Alice in Wonderland.
It was a nice gimmick to put in the film, but it didn't have any added value. I would've been just as happy to see it in 2D, but they didn't show it like that over here.

So while it's nothing really special, it isn't distracting or horrible either. It didn't hurt the filmexperience one bit for me.

I was sitting somewhere between the center and the back of the theatre btw.

Anyone that's seen it care to tackle my questions on the previous page?

OK, here goes:

I'll be honest, I'm shocked at the critical reviews for this so far. Every clip I've seen has looked horrible and Hemsworth looks like a terrible actor in all the horrible clips I've seen. So for those that have seen it already are they just showing the worst of it? Is Hemsworth better than the snippets from previews? What were your expectations going in based on the previews?

Well, my expectations have been pretty high ever since I saw the first trailer. I was afraid maybe even too high. But this film exceeded my expectations! It was just great.

I just said over in the HT thread that I don't think there was a single character that annoyed me. All were great and every actor did a great job.

I never had any doubt about Hemsworth. I guess that's because his small but great part in Star Trek (2009).
He did an excellent job IMO!

But would you say that what has been shown so far is a good indicator of what you get? Meaning if I've thought everything I've seen thus far looks awful is it a safe to say I probably wouldnt be swayed by the full film.

Well, my high expectations were exceeded, so in that logic I'd say that for someone who has lower expectations it will be absolutely awesome...

But in the end it's all about what you expect. If you're referring to the lines like "Next" and "That's more like it" which he says during the battle in the trailer, then you can rest assured because I don't think there was any of that besides those scenes.
For the rest I can only say that he gave a great, solid performance that was really convincing. This man is Thor IMO.

As for the rest, the story is very good, as well as the explanation of the whole magical aspects.

I hope this somewhat answers your question, because this is the best way I can describe it :)

I just dont see how you or anyone for that matter base a decision to watch a movie on a 2 minute trailer. Some trailers look good and the movie sux and vice versa.

Currently at 95% with 40 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, not that it means anything.

I haven't read all the linked reviews but there are several reviewers/sites that I trust that liked it so that is good enough for now. It should be interesting after they add some US reviews to see where is settles in at.

Not much to understand; it's the entire reason trailers and preview clips are made. There's a lot competing for your dollar these days. Your logic about the good trailer/bad movie and visa versa is exactly their purpose. If you pay and go see a ____ty film based on an awesome trailer well they've done an awesome job marketing that film to you.

That's why I'm asking these questions. I'm genuinely surprised at the critical reception based on what I've seen. I had made my decision I'd wait and watch it at home vs. paying for it based on what I'd seen so far, but if these reviews hold up I've got to see what the stink is about.

Really glad the reviews coming in are positive. Really looking forward to this movie and from what I've seen it has looked awesome. Looking forward to seeing it next week on IMAX 3D.

Just seen it. I enjoyed it alot. Know practically nothing about the character but the whole thing of the two realms was handled very well and I'm actually excited for The Avengers and I wasn't interested until now. Great visuals, great gags, good performances and brilliant action. 8.5 out 10.

What a dream it would be to be able to see Thor, Cap and Avengers alongside many of dudes and dudettes from the Freaks Forum. :rock

In all honestly, that would be a blast!

But it's not to be :gah: so the 2nd best would be to come here and share our experiences! :hi5:
