Thanks for the tips,Raymond. Do you ground the pastel to powder first? I know a couple people that brush it off right from the actual sticks. Also, do you add water to the pastels? I do that some times when I'm weathering clothes.

Thanks man!

TheFiend, yes I actually do ground the pastel first but have also worked off the stick. sometimes I use water to blend but not often, only generally if I've laid on something too heavily.

Got it. Thanks. As much modification and weathering work I've done on things repainting a head ,or even working with flesh tones and doing something you've done, is something I've never attempted. The beard is something I think I can tackle and feel comfortable with, flesh tones make me nervous though. I'll have to practice on a cheap head somewhere.

Oh btw, did you take the sculpt off to revise it or leave it on? I was wondering if you got a look at that ridiculous neck adapter/ rubber skin cover thingy. [emoji38]

God isn't that thing the worst!!?? I was pretty shocked... talk about orange that thing looks like it's modeled after Hulk Hogan or something. Good thing its 90 percent covered up/

I did the the head off to do the mods, it comes off and on with little effort luckily.

The beard is really quite a simple mod if you take your time and can use my pics as reference.. it's hard to mess up and if you try with pastel, most of it will rub/wash off if you are not happy before you seal it with the dull coat.

Thanks for the reference pics and tips Ray. I have enough experience with chalk pastels that I feel reasonably comfortable trying the mod when Ned shows up on Tuesday.

Yeah, that thing is horible. [emoji38] I thought they would give him a regular neck adapter like Tyrions. It's the one thing I think is genuinely horrible and pretty lazy. But yeah, thankfully it's covered.

I think the consensus is that this is an awesome figure - looks even better under some warm shelf lighting!
Piper mentioned this earlier and I forgot to answer him but this is very true for this figure.

before anyone asks... I have zero time to take any commissions on now, no exceptions :( but hopefully I can inspire others to modify and enhance.

This looks amazing Ray! It really brings out the likeness. Particularly that 3/4 shot.

Great job...pics needed to be bumped too!

Question: Have you ever tried Krylon Fixative or is the dullcoat a similar product?

Thanks Lee!

I've never tried that but I do think that krylon is a similar product. I'm just comfortable wirh teators dull coat and also tamayia dull coat. I prefer teators.

Holding it about 7 inches away from the sculpt and layering very light mists is the way to go, I've ruined many sculpts thinking I had to goop a layer of dull coat over it to fully seal it and all it really does is make it look glossy. Slowly building up fine layers produces the same sealant effect while keeping it completely flat.

I forgot to mention I covered his eyes wirh small peices of tape when spraying him so I didn't have to re-gloss them.

Raymond any experience with an airbrush and suggestions for a similar dull coat that doesn't come in an aerosol can?

Airbrush is one thing I never got into! I'm completely ignorant on the subject actually! It's funny because I always felt the airbrushed sculpt paint jobs felt a bit... Well airbrushed looking for lack of a better word! Some guys like skiman got really good at that technique with fine results, but the result never struck me as super realistic looking so I never tried to attempt how to learn.

I do think that I've heard of dull coat being able to be put in an airbrush though.

I picked up an airbrush so I can do custom colors on my lightsabers and the control you get is amazingly fine, so I'd like to avoid picking up any more aerosols if possible. As it stands I've got quite the pile of spray cans kicking around now that soon I won't need to use at all.

For a full sculpt paint up, I would think an airbrush is the perfect/preferred tool for the base coats, including primer and maybe some of the shading. Then brush is kind of mandatory for all the details that are going to give it life.

saw the ice letter opener at barnes and noble today, beautiful. thinkin i should get it regardless of if i can find a ex ver or not. if so would be nice to have the diecast ice option to display with fig as well.

It's tough, on one hand Ice from threezero is very lackluster in realism but the Ice Opener looks just as cheap in a brand new sort of way

I don't have any other swords for high-end figures apart from what's come with these Threezero figures, but I think the swords/blades all look very good and fit well with the figures. It's not like they're Hasbro weapons sticking out like a sore thumb. ;)

No that's very true - it fits right in with other plastic weapons of the same variety. If you put hold it against a diecast sword tho the difference does become apparent but from viewing distance it's hardly noticeable

One thing i did notice is for the production run they painted all the eyebrows as the more or less straight lines up like the first proto pics, without the light feathering on the ends

sweet jeebus the first ned with ice i see on after and its at a ridiculous price. oh man this doesnt bode well in my hunt..............:gah: the letter opener option keeps lookin better.
