I got mine on Tuesday and opened it then to take a look. Today was the first time I really got to spend much time with it.
Packaging: Just a simple yellow box with black lettering and embossed hounds. That's pretty much it. It's in line with what they've been doing with this line and I love it. I very much prefer these types of designs for the packaging. Some that's artful. I really hate boxes with just pictures of the figure or the actor on the box. It's pretty bland....and lazy.
The sculpt: Pretty much what I was expecting. I think the likeness is great, and the best so far in this line. I say this sculpt strongly reflects the the actor as the character more than the others, including Tyrion. The paint is rudimentary and is something they need to get a hold of. For such a strong sculpt overall to be buried under crap paint will scare people away and cost them sales. I think with a repaint this thing will look fantastic. The hair can be futzed just fine with some water, or gel, if that is what you like to use. And yeah, it looks bit ridiculous and poofy right out of the box, ya know Just like a lot of brand new rooted hair figures.lol
Outfit/Armor: First up the belts are much, much better this time around. Whereas with the previous release, Jaime , I wasn't fooled for a second that that belt wasn't anything but rubber. This time the weathering and paint is quite good to mask the fact it isn't leather or some other fabric. Especially the belt across his chest/back. For a second I thought they went with leather. The sculpting and flat paint are all well done here. The overall outfit is very accurate from the sculpting/placement of the armor to the dented areas of said armor. The paint on the armor is good. Though threezero does have the tendency to make everything splotchy looking. They may overdo it. It's not bad though. A couple pleasant surprises. One is the fabric chain mail. This probably some of the most realistic I've seen it. No that you can't tell it's not real metal, it just looks very good on the figure especially on the shelf where it blend very good. The other is the greaves. They both look like they are two peices that attach by buckles on the back but they're not. They're both single pieces that slip over the leg, but the sculpt and paint really pull of the look. And finally the very cool Hound helm. Fro me, I could not imagine even considering buying this thing without the helmet. The sculpt is quite accurate to me eye. I do think the paint could be better here. There's something not quite as metallic as I'd like it to. Another problem is I think the helmet doesn't really attach as firm as I'd like. It almost just sits on top of his head which make it easy to out on ans off but I just fell like it should fit more snug. I also appreciate the stand that is given for the helmet to display when not on the figure. Nice touch.
Accessories: Not too much to go over here. He comes with two long swords, a dagger and a katar. The metal paint is simple but effective in my estimation. I will say this though, the paint on all the blades are a fair bit better than the ones that came with Jon Snow and Ned. Those blades came with tiny black splotches for whatever reason. The grip, pommel and hand guard are all painted well and look realistic enough for me.
Overall: I think this is the best figure in this line to date. They've improved in areas I had issues with which I'm happy about. This the best likeness they've mustered as well. The paint is what's holding it back here. That's something that does need improvement
Also, did this come with only one pair of pegs like the earlier figures? I only have the pair that came already on the figure. Two pair were included with Jaime after suggestions/complaints from customers. I thought that would continue...
No pictures right now. Maybe later.
