Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

Its hard to say... sometimes the first piece of a series is a slow seller. But then after more people are aware of its existence and the line continues the later releases sell out faster and the fist becomes very desirable.

Or, the line could be a complete flop and after 2 years you can't sell it for more than 50% of the value.

Collectibles are a fickle thing :huh

I'm a little worried about this and thinking about taking my chances on buying it later on Ebay or something. For the time being I'm holding on to my preorder though.

Plus, I went to Alter Ego's site today and they have the regular piece for $319 (if I remember correctly) before shipping costs. Now for a statue that comes with a print as the EX I could care less. For a light up feature.....I would consider paying the extra.

Still though, if you consider $20 for shipping on Alter's site you'd be looking at only paying $340 compared to what $390...isn't that what Sideshow is showing on the order page? $50 for a light up feature....would be damn cool in a darkened room though huh? :lol Man, what us the collector will pay for!

I'm interested to see what this line does for the main reason, and IMO, it's the first line of high end collectibles we've seen for Thundercat's. If it does horribly and we don't get a Panthro before they possibly quit the line though.....:gah: :panic: :horror :slap.

Again, Pop, make Panthro next...plus you beat Hard Heroes to the punch and will blow their piece out of the water I'm sure!

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

You know...
ThunderCats is a tricky license... a grail for a lot of Licensees, but WB sees it as $$$ only... and apparently the license doesn't come cheap

The fandom is there, but honestly, the license has been dormant for so many years, most people see it more as a cool nostalgia item, that a priority in their collections.

I absolutely love Thundercats, along with MOTU, TF and Mazinger Z, they are some of my most beloved childhood characters... but I haven't been impressed by the products shown or released so far...
the closest would be Hard Hero... specifically Mumm-Ra and Tygra.

BUT, I honestly think once the new cartoon and Bandai figures are out, that will re-spark the interest in the franchise, and maybe then... PCS, HH and IC lines will really take off!

We'll see!

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

Most times a light up feature would be a meh thing for me... but light up eye of thundera and eyes is kind of a key feature of Thundercats.

So in this case I'm willing to take the gamble and pay the full retail and extra $$$ for the light-up feature. Although, the second concern is space... I think I have a spot for him, but if not he could get the axe.

:exactly: #2 and I do think it kicks @$$ that they didn't wimp out on this piece to see what the market would be like. 32" is huge (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!), light up features, and mixed media....all the things I would want in my TCat's statue/display.

I'm really looking forward to owning my first Pop statue too. After looking at the SF stuff as much as I have I really wanted some of their work and I can't think of a better license for my collection to start with.

Don't know if it had been mentioned but I just noticed the EX is now on waitlist. We don't know the edition size though right?

Nice to see it's moving.....

This btw, IMO, is just junk. No offense to anyone that is getting this piece, or POS as I see it, but wow...just bad.

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

:lol I've been rewatching the original series and I'm into the parts with the new TCats. Bengali and Pumyra were not as thrilling as the original 6....but Lynx-O was pretty cool.

I can see HH making some of the others before Panthro, don't freakin' agree with it, but I can see it. All except of course Tygra, and I like Tygra. No way in he** Tygra is more popular than Panthro. Guess maybe they are saving the best for last?!?!

Lynx-o was the sh$%^!! I hope they make him!!! Bengali was pretty cool!! Hope Popculture gets to those characters as well:pray:. Oh and Panthro is My favorite and will be getting him from all 3 companies!!!!!

Gotta agree... stylistically I prefer this more "vintage" look for the Thundercats. But this is boring and looks like ass.

If that was articulated and the paint was a little better I'd give it a pass, but $60 for a statue that small is a joke.

Still hoping Bandai knocks the new figures outta the park.

See Pop...another vote for Panthro....he's GOT to be next...beat Hard Heroes to it!

I would consider a Lynx-o honestly. He was pretty damn cool and played an integral part with the new toons for the time. I mean who else could have navigated the tunnel to get to the lame a$$ Lunattacks?

:exactly: The figure overall is okay, the face and the lame display are

I couldn't believe this thing was $60 when I saw it. I guess I kind of knew Pop's was going to be spendy but surprises for sure for both of them.

I'm trying not to collect anything below 1/6 anymore but a nice looking Panthro would be a tough pass, same with the Thundertank! Question for you guys...are the Bandai one's going to be based on the new 'toon and about 6 or 7 inches or something?

I'm assuming they will be a 'Classics' line and there will be a separate toy line for the new cartoon series.

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

man i wonder when we will see some prototypes. if i can get a decent line of 'classic' thundercats then i will save the money that i would spend on the statue and go for that. i dont know if i have the room for a 32 inch tall statue. we dont even know how wide he is yet do we???

I agree, it looks like a sad clown or something.

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

I have the ex ordered on SS, so I hope they keep the surprise addition Jerry mentioned.

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

They are a good company. They do comics mainly.

I would bite, but man i hope the exclusive is worth it.

I hope so to. If not then I'll just cancel my EX. I'm actually more then happy with the regular plus the money saved.

Re: Thundercats 1/4 Scale Mixed Media Statues by Popcultureshock?

I just converted the EX to Flexpay, so I'm stuck with it. If it doesn't turn out to be so great when I get it, I can always send it back to SS. Otherwise, if it does end up being a stellar piece, I'll have a limited edition and hard to acquire PF.
