If they sell people will make them. I can't live worrying all the time like you. :lol
There is more than enough fully jointed plastic figure versions of every incarnation out there. I think Jazz Inc, can likely deliver something more interesting. Just want the figures in 1:6 as close to the 90s Henson movie suits as possible, in all their rubbery and ratty-haired goodness.
You want something else that's fine.

I don't think he looks like him at all. If they do have the rights this might be the worst NECA sculpt I've seen in years but they're way too good at sculpting for me to believe this so I think it's another Oroku Saki/Hamato Yoshi situation where they try to get around it

It could be the expressions they gave him

I never thought Neca would make them but here we are. This hobby is about patiece tbh. Cuase once you think something isn't going to be made they announce the thing you been wanting. it may bot be perfect but they made it. It's all about patience.

No, it has nothing to do with that. His head shape is totally off like in a ridiculously cartoonish way. I still have a hard time believing they’d do such a bad job when their actual goal is to nail the likeness. l’ll stick to my guns and say it’s more of an approximation and they don’t have the actor’s approval.

The amount of disrespect the 1990 movie gets needs to be studied.

They literally took an idea that would be stupid on film and made it one of the best pieces of films that capture the time period and characters so well. To this day the suits hold up and yes it’s not perfect but they could have churned out a mess of a movie but they literally heighten the brand and gave it 100 percent respect. This movie should be the top 10 of every comic movie list

The only reason I believe it’s disrespected is the lack luster sequels

It’s crazy how neca is the only company that saw the potential for figures.

Now this has my attention. Does he need a sculptor? :lol

You know what (if you’re serious-) Considering the number of independent artists he’s brought onboard for Returns Catwoman, I’d strongly recommend you reach out to Joost with examples of your work to get onboard before the ball has properly got rolling.

You’d be saving him a whole lot of R&D time if you’ve already produced accurate CAD files.

Pretty sure they have the Actor's approval. His son has been saying his dad was getting a figure a year ago or so. Neca has done everything else with actor's rights.

no, they didn't have the likeness rights for the guy who played shredder, which didn't matter as he's wearing a mask. however, he's taking his mask off within the movie and the face sculpt we got is more of an interpretation. notice how there's a red (hannya?) mask sculpt included in the package for this Tatsu as well? I presume they did that for a reason. they didn't have the likeness rights for the shadow warriors either, and yet we ended up getting figures with sculpts that were just close enough so it's not unheard of.

yes they did have the likeness of the actor playing shredder and his mask is purposely removable to see his likeness. Even Randy publicly said so when talking with pixel Dan. Neca does has the Tatsu likeness. They can't make the figure without it. Whether or not the sculpt is "perfect" or not, I think you should wait to see it in hand or see better pictures of it.

I'm about to file a police report because no one has made 1/6 90's movies turtles. Hands down one of the best comic book movie adaptations. Fight me.
I’m just chiming in to say “hell yeah” and agree.

they obviously can otherwise the Oroku Saki/Hamato Yoshi two-pack wouldn't exist, unless you claim they have the likeness rights for the actors who played them too and just did a bad job at sculpting. I hear a lot of hearsay but never see anything official.

I get the complaints about figures not looking 100% exactly like an actor, but the sculpt looks like the Actor/Tatsu and I guarantee Neca signed him or otherwise it wouldn't happen. Neca has said over and over they need his likeness to make him...Guess we'll find out soon at SDCC.....

You didn't really address my points, unfortunately. NECA wants to sell a product and is usually deliberately vague in their statements when they just try to get the figure out. However, if they announce explicitly at SDCC that they've reached an agreement with Toshishiro Obata and now they have his rights, then I'll believe it.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to produce the tatsu without his likeness rights to do so. Considering the actor was already paranoid about his image used on a figure, He would sue the **** out of NECA for it. I think a lot of people refuse to give NECA the credit for finally getting him to sign on. Even his son said he was signed on. The crying on social media about his questionable likeness and this disbelief in this being the real deal is almost unwarranted.

If you have the movie license/rights for a character it's not "illegal" to make an interpretation of it without having likeness rights. Again, there's a precedent with the shadow warrior two-pack. Where and when did the son say his father signed on? All I see is YouTubers and the like vaguely referencing each other when it costs less breath to link me to the article or video (with time stamp) where he said that. Why should anyone refuse to give NECA credit when they're fans of the line? What do you mean by crying? Most people seem to agree with you anyway, which is totally fine. I am glad that neca chose this route to put out a Tatsu. All I need now is a custom head sculpt so I'm actually quite happy.
