Because. I find it just silly.

Look, no matter what you say, nothing in this world will be perfect. If you want I guess...accuracy, get the Hasbro one....but its light, and made of easy to scrach vac-metal. Or, get the close enough SS one, thats made of a strong matiral, and call it a day.

Your never going to get the "exact replica" of the Ark, because that would never happen. No matter how perfect it is, someone will find SOMETHING wrong with it. You want an exact replica, either do it yourself, or steal it from Lucas' ranch.

Calm down. Like MaulFan said, they only had to count it, and they didn't do that properly, which wouldn't have been a hard thing to get right. You might disagree with my comment, but don't call it stupid. If the number of points was the only thing wrong, then you could forgive it, simply because you can't eradicate human error.

Calm down? I'm not upset at all. Yeah, they did. Counted the number on the HR shot I have saved against the screen caps and they match from corner to corner. I disagree with it cause it was a stupid comment. I'm just calling it like it is.

But in addition to that they get a number of other things apparently wrong (I say apparently because who knows what reference material they used or were given, although Hasbro got it right); and on top of that, my view of the piece is that it doesn't look that great.

The wraps are the biggest thing outside of the metallic paint (that part could be difficult due to the polystone). Hasbro's isn't true 1:6th so there are issues with it as well. So the opposite of your view I obviously like it. Looks fantastic and well worth the price of admission.

It's not just the shine, there's just something... dumpy about it. The Ark in ROTLA was a great, elegant prop, and Hasbro captured that. This supposedly high-end collectible hasn't, although I'm sure SSC will fix it before production. And giving them some feedback should help, certainly I think that would be more helpful than just participating in a love-in.

Nothing dumpy about it. The shine may be the issue with the translation from screen to piece but again polystone may not take the way it needs. Giving them feedback does help but there are only a couple things they need to really fix (from my pov). There's no love in I've said what I would like to see fixed.

Toht to me looks awesome, but I just can't have Hasbro besting out Sideshow on the ark. Not on my watch. :wacky

How come an individual is capable of sculpting an exact replica, but a large company with more resources cannot? Or that one company can get the details right while the other cannot?

There will always be some people who will be happy so long as it's gold and has angels on top or that a likeness is in the ballpark. At these prices, the details should be more than close.

Thats assuming they only have ONE Ark. I am guessing they made more than one and I guarentee they don't look exacly alike. There was probably the light weight "lift" one and a heavier more solid looking "opening" one.

This must be the ultimate Wor Gar thread :)

:D

I must say it's tons of fun to have such discussions about a figure from my avatar.

I'm very happy with Toht. Yes, there are some things to change, but then again there always is.

The ark IS inaccurate in several ways -- all already posted -- but it is my hope that SS will address some of the changes. I doubt they'll fix the ten points to eleven...but at least they will likely fix the incorrect pattern on the pole material. The angel's wings...not sure if that will be addressed. We'll see.

Why? Because that person can spend his entire life on that one peice, perfecting it, day in, and day out until its perfect. A company of any kind, can not. Oh yes, they can go back and fix things, but not everything. They need to put it out onto the market.

I understand the points being made on either side.

One the one hand this is about the coolest 1/6 scale set I've ever seen:

On the other hand it seems strange that it isn't as accurate as the Hasbro ark. If its that big a deal at least people can just order Toht and get the Hasbro ark and call it a day.

One thing is other than writings and a few drawings nobody is totally sure what the "actual" ark looks like. :lol

SS fixes the wrapings and honesty its golden.

I mean, I can tell the wings are off...but you know, this set is just too awesome to pass up due to some "off" wings. I wanted hasbro, but I didnt want the crap figures...(I dont use Ebay so...). This is perfect for me.

I find the wrappings and the wings the most noticeable problems... if they fix just those two things, I'm satisfied.

Is the Hasbro ark correct in ALL aspects brought up here: points, wings, etc?

I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt for now. The image DOES indicate "Prototype pending approval", doesn't it? I'm sure there's someone over at Lucasfilm who'll spot the inaccuracies that other Freaks have noticed and presumably Sideshow will fix the more glaring ones.

I'm glad Hasbro had the personal to spent their entire life perfecting the details of the Ark. :monkey3

The sculptor needs to dot their i's and cross their t's before they send it off. Overall, it's very nice and more correct than not, but the sculpt drops the ball unecessarily in several places.

You guys are killing me! :lol I don't think I can come in here again without laughing before each time I do.

I offered up the original image in passing, but did so now in the hopes that Sideshow will fix what's not quite right. Personally, as it is now, I'll probably decide on the Hasbro ark if I can get it without having to pay too much. That will mean getting rid of the ugly pole "wrappings" it has, though. If not this Ark is still pretty cool and I used my rewards points to get a deal on it.

I am surprised that criticism of the points (I just laughed again) are ridiculed but somehow wanting the ark to be shinier is OK. It is already gold, after all, heh.

Been lurking a long while on here, and now I gotta call this crap ridiculous!!!

$70 = 2 blu rays and a Starbucks cofee. Or 3 meals for a family of four from Taco Bell.

You want complete screen accurate depictions of something, spend 4 months of your own life making it, wait 10 yrs for Hot Toys to pick up the license, or better yet, pay $500 for Cinemaquette to put out a quarterscale replica, since nobody seems to question their authenticity.

OR you could pick up Sideshows for the price of two blu rays and a cup of java, never mention to friends or family that are admiring it that its not 100% accurate, and unless they're a bigger nerd than you, nobody but you will be the wiser, and they'll probably compliment you on your cool collectible.

I agree with you guys about he details needing to be reexamined, but I just want them to actually paint it gold! Hasbro's is at least bright and gleaming!

I just want it to have a better silhouette. Ironically, Toht looks to me to have the best silhouette of any suited SSC figure I''ve ever seen - from the protos the tailoring looks superb, which is kind of funny considering the suit is going to be under the coat.
