Saw this last night, and loved it. Was expecting to witness something terrible from all the reviews ripping on it, but no. This was a well produced, action packed comic book flick that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Hopefully they hold the same quality for the sequel!

For a second I thought you were JAWS because of the avatar and thought 'Damn, that's the biggest one-eighty opinion on a second viewing since jye enjoyed IT, watched it again then hated it.'
Shame it couldn't work on him after 20 viewings of TLJ.
Luke was in force awakens for all of 2 seconds, he didn't even get to utter a word, does that small cameo even count as "a movie with Luke in it" lol. It was more like a post credit scene appearance than an actual movie appearance.

I finally saw this tonight and thought it was quite meh on the whole. It was not horrible but there was absolutely nothing jarringly great about it aside from Venom himself.
Dialogue was average to bad. It didn't take me out of the movie completely, but it was definitely not good from a writing standpoint.
This film would have definitely benefited tremendously from having Spider-Man involved in some form or another. The story they came up with as a substitute wasn't the worst they could have done, but it definitely had all of the potential to turn out a complete trainwreck had it been made in completely incompetent hands like that God-awful FF reboot.
As others have said, the best parts of the movie by far were Venom himself along with his chemistry with Eddie. I think Tom Hardy can be a good actor but he should have been allowed to use his own voice in this as opposed to that awful NY accent (or whatever) because there were times where I couldn't even understand what he was saying. The voice of Venom was clearer than Eddie's own voice. Aside from not having the white spider logo on his chest, they nailed Venom's look and the film would have been leagues better had there been more of Venom's full form in it. She-Venom was hawt, there should have been more of her.
The only part I would call close to great is the scene where Venom suggests that Eddie should apologize to Anne because he might not get the chance to do so again. That, and maybe one or two scenes where Venom fights Drake's men.
As I expected, the main villain was poor and totally forgettable. Riot had cool powers I guess, but all in all was a total waste.
Couldn't buy Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady at all. Carnage is my all time favorite Marvel character, but they should definitely re-cast if they plan on moving forward with him as the villain in the sequel.
Funny side story - when I got to the theatre they took an extra 15 minutes after the scheduled showtime to start Venom because I was the only person there for that showing, so I lost my patience and, thinking they wouldn't play the movie, sneaked into the Goosebumps 2 showing and caught about ten minutes worth of that movie before the manager walked in and told me they were finally showing Venom.
My score is somewhere between a 5 and a 6. As I said before, it was just very "bleah" aside from Venom himself.
I read somewhere that they're pulling this movie from all theatres in the US on Thursday. Might want to hurry up in case you change your mind.
This is better than the worst of the MCU (not saying much), but it's about on par with TASM1 and SM3 at best (though this is obviously way better than SM3 as far as Venom himself is concerned).
This is one of those movies where if you try to take it too seriously, it's not going to be as enjoyable. It's more of a"just let go, relax, and enjoy the action" type of deal. For me, this can be refreshing and a very enjoyable escape when done correctly. Hell, almost all of the 80's hits ran by this formula lol
If you go in expecting high caliber dialog and an academy award winning screenplay and such, you're probably going to be disappointed.
